Coil Spring Compressors?

I need to remove the springs on the Evo and rented a coil spring compressor from Advance. It's not the kind I've used before. It looks like this one ... http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...1791000P?mv=rr

Can this style be used on McPhearson struts or do I need to just buy a set that goes on either side of the spring?

I've got a set of spring compressors that are the separate style. you can borrow if you need them.

I do! Sadly, not going to be down that way this evening ... I need to get these things off and shipped to have it ready for the 10th. I might just run by and get them if I get the struts off this evening.

try Autozone, some rent the type you are looking for

not sure how yours is set up but if you take the top nut off the strut with the car on jackstands and lower the lca's with a jack slowly you can do it that way. hope this helps

I've used that method before, but don't prefer it. Plus, the car is in the air with a bolt missing from the LCAs already. I went back to Advance and rented the correct tool. They just gave me the wrong one. I questioned it when I rented the first ones, but whatever. Now I know. Got one strut disassembled yesterday and will finish the rest this afternoon.
