  • AMB tx160 transponder

So I bought this transponder on "egay" thinking I was getting a good deal .It is a rechargeable and is yellow .It wasnt untill after the bid that I went googling for the thing and saw that its designed for kart racing .Its to be mounted 12" or less from the ground and for speeds up to 100mph.

I planned to use this on my 240 for TT. Can someone who is experienced with transponders tell me if this will work out ok.

I know that at TGPR,the transponder strip is on the highway straight and at that point Im not anywhere near 100MPH. Assuming that its close enough to the ground ...my school of thought was that it would work fine .

I wonder if you exceeded 100mph on the cornfield stretch, would the transponder shutdown and not do it's job at the line?

Im not sure it works that way.As far as I know ,a transponders only mission is to transmit its signal at the strip each time around .

        Ricky,

One issue could be the frequency, wavelength; etc. of the signal.
The 160 and 260 could possibly be on different signals and not compatible.

        Do you have paperwork?
I'll check my 260 to see for the specifics.

          Ricky,

No details at all on the unit, box, or instuctions.
I was hoping there would be FCC info about the signal (like most electronic devices).

It did state the maximum mounting height for the 260 is 24" for cars and 48" for motorcycles. The differences between the 160 and 260 may be power output.

One thought is that if karts run at TGPR that their loop may pick up the 16o signal.

I wanted to update this for whatever benefit it is worth.

I used the gx160 transponder this past weekend and it worked flawlessly on my 240 sx at TGPR for the whole weekend. It retails from pegasus for 250 or so and can be found on ebay most of the time . I got mine used and paid a little more than I should have in used condition (200 bucks) but it worked. I was happy.
