i have an '04 g35 coupe. i am changing the rotors & upgrading to ss lines. the fronts are done. both back rotors are stuck on. i can not get them off to save my life (possibly literaly). i have pulled, pushed & beat on them. they wont budge at all. any suggestions, or is there a magical e-clip hidden somewhere that releases them?

Might be to late and I'm not sure how the G35 works, but on the RX7 there is a place to for a screw and you can just put a screw in there and it should pop right off. You also might need to hit it also once you get the pressure of the screw on it for it break loose, but it comes off pretty easily if you do it that way, beating it alone usually doesn't get them off.

I'll bet it's just some kind of corrosion/oxidation holding them together. I had a similar issue on my VW. I had to beat the crap out of them to get them to release ... absolutely nothing holding them on aside from some oxidation. If anything there is one small screw on the front of the rotor that should be easy to find and remove.

i got them off. the fronts had the screw to pop them off. i thought that was just an incredible idea. the rears had no such device. there is a hole to adjust the parking brake, but that is it. i got them off by spraying some penetrating oil & beating the snot out of them. i am SSOOOO glad i dont have to reuse them. i ended up having to hit the surface of the rotor from the back to get them off. the surface got VERY scared from the hammering. after having them design in something like having the screw already there to pop off the front rotors, i just cant believe nissan would be that lazy on the rear rotors.

Does the G35 have the parking brake inside the rotor?

Did the ebrakes pads being off cause the rotor to stick or is the ebrake pad off due to hammer time? BMW has a similar ebrake setup. Usually you can release the tension on the ebrake pads then just lift off the rotor. Just curious, I have brakes to do soon.

near as i can tell the only problem was rust. this was the 1st time the rears had ever been off the car. once they came off they would go on & off easily. they are hub centric, so i assume that contributed to them being stuborn. the shoes did not apear to be making any contact w/ the inside of the rotor. if you have the same problems i did i would recomend what i used, penetrating oil & a hammer & if you are going to reuse the rotors (which i didnt) you MUST put something (a block of wood) between the rotor & the hammer. i didnt try this, but maybe a torch to heat up the rotor around the hub, but be careful w/ the torch & the penetrating oil, that just doesnt seem like a good combo.

                    ...in conjunction with a hammer!

The 350Z is the same way. With only 40k miles ours were pretty well stuck too. Just make sure to use brake cleaner to get any oil off the parking brake shoes.
