Vanos removal tools?
08-01-2013, 11:57 AM
Anyone have a set of tools required to remove a single vanos system (S52) they would be willing to rent or loan out? Need the cam locks, flywheel pin and gear wrench.

Or Lee Bolwerk
Or Issac Borego
or maybe Edwin Cunhill
John Kilgore...if winning was easy, losers would do it.

Yep, the single is a bit different. You have to lock everything down and then move the exhaust cam gear to work the system off the intake cam.
The Neon owner in me says to just jump in and make a tool or rig something up - the BMW owner in me says NEIN!

I don't know anyone who has a loaner set locally. I believe there are some places online with rental tools.
I do know that the factory repair instructions for the installation are poorly written and your timing will be off if you follow them exactly.
