I'm looking for some cheap, reliable transportation. A friend of mine has a daughter heading off to school and needs something dependable for traveling back and forth.
They have a pretty meager budget to work with. They want to keep it less than $5,000.

I offered a certain mangy looking green 2000 Miata since, obviously, Miata is the answer to all automotive "what-to-buy" questions. I even went so far as to describe the manual transmission as an effective anti-texting device. It was to no avail. They want a slushbox.

MKIV VW 2.0 car ... Golf, Jetta, Beetle ... either is fine. Great safety, affordable, reliable engines. Some minor electrical issues that should have all been fixed under warranty by now.
