Can anyone confirm for me the difference in the GM and Mustang T5 shifter assembly mounting?

It looks like the mount is the same, but the upper shifter arm is a two piece on the mustang and a one piece on the GM. I know from sitting in mid 90 mustangs the shifter is usually cocked over towards the driver.

I am wondering because the Mustang shifters are WAY cheaper then the GM.

the bell housing on a camaro T5 cants the trans toward the drivers side. A mustang T5 is in there straight . Outside of that ....I really have no idea as to whether the physical shifters will interchange/ have the same mounting flange . I know if you were trying to bolt a mustang shifter into a t5 in a camaro the angle of the stick would be bad. You can always mod the stick to go where you want it if the shifter will mechanically bolt in .

Yeah, that is what I am wondering. From what I have read the gm t5 is 18 degrees toward one side. But I haven't been able to find out whether the mounting flange is interchangeable. I would think it is, and from looking at the Tremec BorgWarner website the schematic for the WC gm and ford T5 shows it to be the same except for the front bearing retainer. I just don't want to assume.

I am thinking that I am going to have to make some sort of external linkage anyway because of how far back the engine and trans will be going and where the seat will be. So I think I should be okay.

I guess the safe thing would be to order a Mustang shifter since its cheaper, see if it works, and if it doesn't then order the more expensive gm shifter and I'm sure I can get rid of the Mustang shifter.

the linkage thing is simple ...I did it in my S10 when it had a bench seat . The shifter actually came up under the seat and I used an inner tie rod from a rack and pinion welded to a plate as the dummy shfter and welded a clevice to the tie rod and to the stub of the actual shifter and then used a flat bar with a hole in each end for the relay rod. Was very effective and I drove it that way for about 20 thousand miles .

If you have to do that then you will be better off getting a used shifter to cut up . If I recall correctly ...an s10 with a t5 might have had the same basic shifter base but Im unsure .Come to think of it ....the actual shifter for a mustang is just a stub anyway so that might not take much modifying at all. You might see if a t45 shifter will work . That might be easier to find used

Pretty much exactly my thought process Ricky. I was asking for the mustang fitment because it is a stub with typically a piece that seems to bring it angled back and then another piece for the shifter. This would be easy to make work on a linkage system.

Thanks for the heads up that you did this without problems. I know many of the race teams have to do this with the different transmissions they use and have to adapt a shifter linkage to an odd seating arrangement, so I figured it would work for this crazy thing.

I believe the GM linkage is also considerably shorter.

When people swap T5's into volvos, the ford shifter fits into the hole but sits a bit forward, and the GM one doesn't even make it to the hole in the trans tunnel.

The angling is also an issue, but you can get mounts/spacers to allow you to bolt it in upright instead of crooked.
