  • Street driving instruction for teens and adul

I’m looking for teens and adults to train in street driving because I have started Red Mountain Driving Academy, the newest licensed driving school in the Birmingham area.

As a member or fan of ALSCCA, you are already a seasoned driver, but there is a lot of potential for improving the driving environment. The Birmingham News once reported that there were about 40,000 teens graduating from high school each year in the area. About one third of them don’t take drivers’ ed. That means 13,000 teens per year are hitting the streets after reading the drivers’ manual.

I don’t teach the way you learned in high school. For example, if you have watched or participated in a New Driver Car Control Clinic, you’d recognize the exercises I use in the first, or assessment, in-car lesson. We stay in a parking lot until the student can steer through a five cone slalom and do maximum straight-line braking. Eye control, speed control, hand placement and steering speed, steering form, seating position and basic eye-hand-foot coordination are all checked in the first few minutes of the first lesson, and we find out what skills need work before going on the road.

My web site is redmountaindriving.com and it lists the courses I teach, the prices for them, and my qualifications. Club members’ immediate families get discounts.

Many parents are looking for an alternative to public school drivers’ ed. Small religion-based schools may be interested in a contractual arrangement for training their teens, classroom or in-car. Adults who need to learn to drive may ask your opinion.

I’d appreciate a mention to those who bring up the driver training topic.
