  • Want to by Car for Teen Driver

I'm starting my search for an inexpensive 1st car for my son. Looking primarily for a 4 door import, with an automatic transmission, (I think he may be the mailman's kid). I'm teaching him to drive my MX-5 with a stick, but he doesn't like it.

Prefer Japanese, Korean, or German makes. High miles may be OK, if you have maintenance records on it. Looking to spend around $3-4K or less on something safe, dependable, & hopefully at least a little sporty. May be able to stretch a little more for the right car. No re-build titles, and no major wrecks. He is picky, so looking for something that is pretty clean in regard to body panels & interior. Please let me know if you have something that fits the bill.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Well, that was quick! Bought a Gray '08 GTI, 2 Door, with DSG transmission & Leather today for $5100. High miles, but good service records & runs strong. He loves it. (I think I like driving it more than he does!). Brings me back to my college days with my MK1.

Wish we could have found one with the Interlagos plaid interior, but the leather is in good shape in this one. Search is done! WooHoo!

Thanks Josh. Pics attached. And No, it's not leaking (yet), we had just washed it.

So I assume I'll get to see it at the Teen Driver Clinic...

I assume the check engine light is on even if it's not leaking

Yes Rod, he will be driving it at the TDC. His 16th birthday is about a month out, but I wanted him to drive what he will actually be driving for the clinic.

No Jerry, the CEL is NOT on (yet). Don't hex me brother!
