  • Corbeau FX1 race seat

I purchased a FX1 (wide version) from Corbeau and it hits the door bars on my new race car and won't work for me. It's black microsuede and has both bottom and side mounting points as well as a back brace mounting point. It's brand new and has been out of the box only long enough to test fit. It's very comfortable and similar to a Sparco Evo 2 or XL.

See specs, measurements and details at: http://www.corbeau.com/products/fixe...seats/fx1_pro/

Email for crummy cell phone pics.

Where are you and the seat located? Do you have a few photos of it you could
send me jnewcomb@uss.com. I have a Miata as well but mine has the Nascar
style bars that roll into the inside of the door so it may fit in mine and I have been
thinking of getting one. Thanks, John

Just curious, is it too wide for a stock Miata?

        Guys,

It's probably too big for a Miata, you'd have to do really ugly things with a 5# sledge...and maybe a welder. You are welcome to come by and try it, I'm in Alabaster. Heck, I even have a sledge and a welder if you really want to try it!

To clarify: I was trying to put this seat into my E36 BMW sedan with cage/nascar bars, the seat hits the bars where they come into the car from the door. A coupe with a longer door would probably work in my case. Without doorbars the seat will fit in my car (E36).

Courbeau also makes model specific floor mounts/slider which run $70-100, fyi.

          is the seat FIA certified?

Because they heard I liked my name, so they put my name as my name so I could have my name in my name... all the time.

No, hence the built-in backbrace mounting point and lack of a $700 price tag.

sparco evo's are certified and they're in the same price range (320ish per)...

That being said though, with the seat back roll bar mount, does that make it scca race legal in a tt event?

True, real Sparco Evo's are FIA certified but sadly they are not ~$320 otherwise I'd run one. The knock-offs in the $200-300 range on ebay you may note have no FIA sticker on the left side and a different profile front cushion. Be carefull.

SCCA specs require a fixed-back, racing type seat. Unless it happens to be FIA certified with a recent date (<5 years?) a seat requires a back brace. The Corbeau is legal when used with a brace.

I thought stock seats were still legal in TT. Well, 9.2.1.L. in the 2010 rules says race seat is recommended, but not required.

The big question is, is that changing in 2011? I believe there was a proposal to require them at some point, but I stopped watching that issue for a while and lost track.

Chuck's right: a Solo-classed TT car can still use an oem seat (for now). If you're preparing an IT or any other GCR class the fixed-back/backbrace applies.

So, being that it has a brace for the roll bar attachment, it's legit to run?

There is no brace included with my seat. The seat comes with a threaded insert molded into a reinforced area on the back to simplify connecting a back brace. Same thing with the 4 side mounts and 4 bottom mounts, threaded inserts.

Yes, if you brace this seat you can run it in TT.

Still available. Might trade towards E36 go-fast stuff or ??

I'm hoping to have it finished by late February for shakedown and aiming for TGPR for the first event. Turbo Miata's gotta go if you know anyone interested.
