  • need some video posting help

alright so I took several incar vids with my new gopro hero3 and now I cant post a video to save my life . They are MP4 files and they play fine on my computer in quicktime and if I convert them to AVI or MOV I can play them in windows media player but I cant seem to post any of them to youtube or facebook. The upload fails right at the end saying they are not the right format. Youtube supports all 3 file formats . The raw MP4 is 1.5gb in size . When converted to a AVI or MOV even though I have trimmed he original video from 17 minutes to 6 minutes ...its almost 2.5GB in size once converted....WTH is that about? Help me

It takes about 120 minutes to upload then it fails ..Argghhh. Ive never posted a vid on youtube before but i have posted vids to FB from my tab and this laptop and have had no problems there but I cant get these to go up from the tablet or the laptop????

Are you using Cineform Studio to covert them from the GoPro codec to something more user friendly?

yeah Im using the cineform but OMG it takes forever ...should it? I mean it takes an hout or better to convert a 17 minutes video even after shaving the in and out down to under 10 and then the resultant AVI has failed to upload to youtube and facebook 4 timeseach. Like I say they play fine on my computer and tablet but appear to be very large. 2.5GB is quite large I would think....especially when the raw MP4 was only 1.5GB before conversion...how does that work?

MP4 is not RAW. It's highly compressed. You woulnd't believe the size of RAW video files ... your 7 min vid could be a few hundred gb easy if uncompressed. That's why you convert it for editing as many editing suites can't work with that kind of data compression in real time. When you convert it, you move it to an intermediate codec in MOV or AVI format, which is larger, less compressed and easier to edit.

Are you saving as MP4 again from the edit window in Cineform? That might help. I believe that you go to MOV or AVI in the convert function, then you can teak colors and such in the edit mode, and export a compressed MP4 from there with the button on the lower right.

And yes, compression can easily take 2x or 3x real time to complete. It all depends on codecs. If you just redo it in the same codec it's faster, but changing codecs it has to rearrange all of the data and it takes time to do so while retaining quality.

OK now I think I have a better understanding. I am converting the raw file to an AVI or MOV for the sole purpose of editing and such then I am converting it back to an MP4 and exporting it . I just got done doing that and exported it and now I have an MP4 that is about 500MB in size so that should post to youtube Im thinking. I am uploading it as we speak so i will see how it goes. Fingers are crossed but hopes are high since the processing time is only 20 minutes on that one.

yeah I could probably get off the corner better in 3rd if the traction was there for it . Time for more downforce and more tire in the back. Even coming over the hills in 4th its touchy with the throttle.

Casey, was that tire squeal or you laughing at Ricky as he went over the curb and cut the grass?

Seeing those two videos back-to-back is really enlightening and easily illustrates how ridiculous an LS powered track car is. Casey is all over the gears and Ricky is just chilling in 4th ... and walking away.
