Pages with text need shorter blocks of text with much more white space. Otherwise, visually it's just a blur.

I think photos look better with some kind of border or delineation between them. Again, white space.
    .
I second these White Space Comments. I would also add that the top of both the SF and Oregon pages are USELESS. The top third of the page is empty space .... to get to other areas of the page, you have to find little tiny link buttons.

Navigating to the individual containers should be done via BIG GIANT link areas under say a picture.

What this new web design proposal attempts to do is "suck" the viewer in. In my opinion, the dynamic concept of the new design better does just that. When I first viewed the proposal, I was indeed sucked in: I wanted to read more.

The design should not be strickly for the benefit of us, the initiated; it should also be a tool that can solicit prospective members. We have to give them something of everything we offer, right up front, and then suck them in.

I dislike the formal design of the other sited SCCA regions. To me, they are boring. Useful, yes, entertaining, no.

Greg, the proposed design is, in a word, overwhelming. The content is lost in the sea of photos on most pages. It needs white space, consistency and less clutter.

What needs to be understood is that people come to the site for a reason. That reason needs to be acknowledged and nurtured in the user experience. The point of the site isn't to "wow" people ... the main purpose is to give them information. Otherwise, it's "Wow ... I can't find crap on this site, but there sure are a lot of pictures."

I've offered my services to David in the form of information architecture, usability and design consultation. Not trying to toot horns, but I do this for a living and am willing to help where I can.

I'm so glad we are having these discussions. It's good to air one's opinions both pro and con. I really need to hear them on the front end of the project. Please keep 'em comming.
          Thanks Greg and Matt,

I remember when I first stumbled across the alscca website a few years back.. I was kind of disappointed at the lack of information about autocross, which would have included pictures and videos and more informative reading. I think the page is exactly the same as it was then. It didn't really make me want to come out and give it a try, and finding the up to date schedule was even worse. The forum saved it.

To me the forum is the site. The other pages are just pages that haven't been updated in a long while. The new website format will allow us to update quickly and easily. I just want to be able to register for events on OUR site and not have to go to yet another registration site to sign up for an event. I agree the format I saw in the powerpoint presentation was very busy and needed white space. (I'm an art director/graphic designer so I can say that.) I can assume that Mr. Branch did that for spec purposes and wasn't representative of the final design.

John, the online registration is tied in to the software we use for T&S ... kinda. It's an online database that we connect to and DL the registration. I don't see and technical reason why we couldn't connect to that same database from our site and register from here, but that could be a security issue for the AxWare database. That ability really rests on the shoulders of AxWare allowing us to connect.

                  Excellent suggestions, Matt and John-

I am aware that different states have different laws. Guide me to the web sites that will help me know the laws of each state, and what I can do to get a license to practice there.
                    Thanks
Mr. Cheyanne (or is it Ms.?)
You have come to the right place! Sure, we all know about those laws and fully discuss them prior to every event. Believe me there is a huge difference between USA and Canada. Yes the states have differences too. In fact, Alabama is number 5 ! Really, all you have to do is bring your daily driver out to our autoX a couple of times to practice. When you hear Mikes pitch about signing waivers, see Jordan, Katie and Matt's smiles as they take your money, hear Eric's Homilies before we start, Ricky's, John's and Darryl's general pronounstications, Chris Warren's (Mr. Mojo) Safety sermons, C & Sara's instructions to the NOOBYs, and hear Rod's laugh from across the universe, you will feel much better. That is, until Sean and Greg learn a little something about you, then you'll pay big while you are out there trying to negotiate the course (practicing)!

Or, you can sit home and study.
