  • Gear for Virtual Racing?

I am looking at to buying some gear to get started in some virtual racing. But I'm not sure what is good and what is crap. I don't want to get something and then be totally disappointed in it.

I don't need the BEST thing out there, just something that is good and will provide excellent feedback and work well. I am thinking about building a rig setup similar to Shaun's so keep that in mind as well(buying a cheap seat and putting it on a rolling setup).

    Thanks,
    Vincent.

momo forcefeedback wheel should be fine, if you want the semiballer wheel go G25

    60" or slightly smaller monitor

decent vid card and overall PC, doesn't have to be otherworldly

    btw, give me some money

paying indicates you are getting something in return, i.e goods, services, favors

giving indicates you are expecting nothing in return, i.e donating, throwing away, not lending

The Logitech Momo Racing wheel is a great beginner purchase. They are dirt cheap on eBay. I got mine for about $40 refurbished. They can be found for $30 used.

The beginner wheel will let you learn a lot ... you can work on braking technique, turn in, apexes, steering input and (most importantly) wheel-to-wheel techniques and etiquette.

Once you've got the basics down and some spare cash, you can upgrade to the G25 which has a clutch, better pedal feedback, 900º rotation and a gated shifter. Or, for a little more, you can get the Porsche GT3 RS themed wheel (Sean knows who makes it) with all that, plus force feedback pedals and a sweet Porsche look. EDIT :: http://www.fanatec.de/webshop/new_us...0463a162d3438e

The titles to look in to are Live for Speed, GTR2, rFactor and maybe Race '07. I only mention Race '07 because there are new games coming out that are basically expansions of it, like GTR Evolution and the new Race titles. We Use LFS for the autocross stuff (for now) and do most other racing in GTR2 or rFactor.

The Fanatec crushes the G25. Soon you shall be able to test drive said GT3 RS .

By test drive, you mean lengthy stay at the Williams household?

I was reading some, and some have said that the modded G25 pedals feel better than the clubsports, but the build quality and detail on the clubsports is amazing. There are mixed opinions on the Fanatec shifter too.

Why don't you come pick up my Momo Logitech and use it until I get moved? I can collect it back from you after we get settled in Bham. I have the box right here and was getting ready to pack it up. Sean uses one of these on the back-up rig, don't you Sean?

I have several black Momo's floating around here. The only issue they have been modded to fit the VGT and won't work outside of the simulator. The black momo is a great wheel for the money. Take her up on the offer Vincent, it's worth it.

i've seen the red momo's go for a pretty hefty premium. are they worth it? i know they have leather & aluminum in stead of plastic & bearings instead of bushings. does it have the same gear set, is it smoother? i have seen them sell from $150-$250. i find the difference VERY hard to justify not having seen one in person.

with the G25 out and now Fanatec's stuff, The red momo is a dinosaur. It's really good, but it's not worth that kind of money anymore.

I agree. For that price, go with a used G25. Fanatec stuff is really hard to get right now.
