It's only Day 3 (of One Lap,) and these guys are starting to get giddy. That's not supposed to happen until Day 6 - Brock Yates, Jr.

If anybody's interested, Talladega Gran Prix results (two events, standing start, 3 laps and done) are linked from this page - http://www.onelapofamerica.com/histo...s.shtml?y=2009

Interesting to note that lap times for each car in the bunch were all slower than some of our TT folks, although they only had two 3-lap shots at a track nearly all had never seen before. In fact, the event organizers didn't even know the track was CCW until they went out to take a look.

Just to let you know Chuck the white STI that had the wide body kit blew up the engine yesterday at sebring. The drivers were Mike Lattos and Eric Van cleef. They were consistantly in the top 5 or so in each event.

Actually, Sebring was this morning and afternoon. TGPR was yesterday. They move pretty fast.

Gainesville, FL, tonight for drag racing (should be done by now,) Daytona's road course, tomorrow, then on to CMP and then the BMW performance center Thursday, BeaveRun, PA on Friday, and back to Tire Rack in Indiana on Saturday. Whew!

Sad to hear when anybody has a problem, but that's part of what makes it racin', I guess. They're currently listed in 18th out of 59 starters after missing at least one event. Motor Trend says they're shopping for a motor.

An interesting bunch of cars and people out there. I want to join them one of these days.

Keep in mind those times are slightly skewed, apparently they did a single 5/10's reconnaissance lap, came to a stop at the start/finish for a flagged start and then did 3 flying laps for a total time. My unofficial timing had one of the GTR's at a 1:06, on their second lap, on a damp track they hadn't run on before! The GT2 Porsche sounded incredible too.

I bailed at the end of the morning session and the heavy rain was just starting, I'm sure that made the second session that much more exciting.

They did a formation lap to get to grid (remembering that SCCA and most other clubs usually use a false grid, off track, somewhere.) Timing started after maybe a 20-foot flying start, and ended after 3 laps.

Apparently the cars were podded by current standings, fast cars first.

Rain stopped by noon, then the track generally dried in the afternoon with light sprinkles keeping it slightly damp all afternoon, but much better for the slower guys who had had significantly wet track in the morning.

I concur with your 1:06 - that was the best time I got, somewhere in the first pod. The fast guys were very impressive, as was the driver of the Honda Fit, who passed a Boxter in his afternoon run. Also, these guys were on the same tires they were going to use for the whole week (well, 4 out of the 6 or so they were allowed, IIRC.)

1:06 sounds about right. I think they were cutting right at 1:09 at the SforS event last October, in the wet, with drivers that have never been on ANY track before.
