    Wish me luck!

Vincent ... you are too nice. This is a lie, plain and simple. He doesn't get online to return your e-mails until you notify the FBI ... convenient. Keep going with the FBI investigation. If he sends you a refund, do not close the case until a couple of weeks AFTER the check has cleared your account.

I'm with Kathy. Give him a deadline to refund you NOW. Do not fall for another scam man ...

We have been communicating for the last couple of days. Things are looking a a lot better now. He was convinced that I had already received the engine swap. That was his reason for not checking the forums. I told him that I don't think there is an engine, but he is convinced that there is because of business that he's done with this guy in the past. His "partner" is trying to find out what's going on. I will know more tomorrow. I am giving him until the end of the week...

Vincent ... again, too nice. In the for sale thread, he said the engine was his. He even mentioned specific parts that he had repaired and such. No partner was mentioned until he tried to get himself out of hot water. If you feel the need to give him a week, then do so, but I think you're just falling deeper in.

There is no engine. There is no partner. And, likely, there is no money.

How can things be looking any better? I don't see an engine, and I don't see a refund. THAT IS NOT BETTER.

The reason they call these kinds of scammers "con" men is because the "con" stands for CONFIDENCE. It's the oldest game in the book. They use LIES to gain your CONFIDENCE in them, all the while they are stealing you blind. Once again, this thief has managed to make you FEEL better by telling you some more lies. Hey, it has worked all along so far, why would he stop now?

              From Wikipedia on "confidence tricks:"
Persons of any level of intelligence are vulnerable to deception by experienced con artists. Confidence tricks exploit human weaknesses like greed, dishonesty, vanity, but also virtues like honesty, compassion, or a naïve expectation of good faith on the part of the con artist.

This person has now succeeded TWICE in gaining your confidence regarding this deal: the first time he told a great big pile of lies to GET YOUR MONEY, and he got it; the second time he has told you a whole NEW pile of lies to get you off his back about the way he scammed you the first time. And so far, that's working out great for him, too. Because you are still waiting for this imaginary engine, which now we learn has been stolen by an imaginary partner. RIGHT.

              PU-LEASE!!!!!

Crap I cannot believe we are still even having this conversation. I am going to protect you from yourself by coming over there and collecting your computer - AND YOUR CHECKBOOK!

Well Kathy, I'm trying to look on the bright side of things here because the guy already has my money!!! People who know me know that I am not a "gullible" person. There was a for sale add, I wanted the engine, I paid for it, and I got screwed. At the time I thought it was a good buy and made the "purchase" with the best of intentions. People get screwed over every day. Now all I can do is hope and pray that the guy will give me my money back which will probably never happen. I've been up and down and up and down and I'm sick of worrying about it!

I shouldn't of even started this thread!!!

                  Guys,

We have been jumping all over Vincent about this deal..... once you recognized the problem you've done everything well. If you've spoken to the guy, you are making some headway. Most con artists would have simply bolted once they got the cash.

Make sure you keep a copy of the picture with his license plate and just keep pushing him for your money back. The more you get in email communications the stronger the case. Keep the emails up and you can eventually sue him for the funds.

Keep your chin up and stay diligent.

Sometimes people get screwed, but if we lived our lives constantly worrying that everyone was out to get us ... we would all have to be medicated for paranoia. You'll not likely get taken like this again and if you keep at it and collect enough written communication, the guy will realize he's screwed and eventually refund you the money.

                  -Jamie

I know, I felt bad and I gave Vince a call the other night to apologize. Sorry Vince!

In the situation you're in, I can understand you wanting to believe that the guy you've trusted is actually trustworthy.

And ya know, I got nothing more to say about it.
