Okay.... I got a Teac reel-to-reel with reverb! How 'bout a 14 watt Heathkit monoral amp/pre-amp with seperate bass and treble controls! Maybe a portable radio the size of a pack of Winstons that has 6 (count 'em) transistors the size of cigarette filters and only plays Amplitude Modulation! In the transistor radio's heyday, 8gigs of ram was the sum total in the universe, and now he has it on his desktop; looks like C-T meters at a power sub-station

Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection ...... again.

It;s my understading that no matter what config of XP you are running 2 gigs of RAM are all it will actually recognize. I'm not running the 64 bit version so please tell me if I'm wrong and how it utilizes 8 gigs of ram if it can.

Actually, the limit is 3.8gb. And, XP can recognize 8gb with some registry tweaks. XP64 can recognize more than standard XP(32bit). EDIT :: 128gb is the RAM limit.

And Cholewa, extra RAM is great for multitasking. Windows itself and standard system processes use a little RAM all the time, and if you're running Photoshop and a video editing app at the same time, that can be intensive. I honestly don't think he'll use all 8gb, but he might sometimes use more than 4gb. Gaming won't use more than it's 3.8gb (32bit), but it won't be crowded with system processes either, so the RAM does help there.

Personally, I run out of RAM often on my machines. My Mac has 1.5gb and I'm always out of RAM when editing or doing motion graphics. I would venture to say that I could easily use 8gb quicky with After Effects ... not even counting multitasking with Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. I've got 2gb in the PC I've found myself using Photoshop and Illustrator and running out of RAM. So, more RAM does help ... especially on a 64bit OS.

I have been told that up to the 3.8 can be used, but the ram over 2 gigs is not utilized in an optimum fashion. I want 23 GPU's and no ram, lol.

You, sir, have been told wrong. At least about the 3.8gb part for a 64bit OS. If you are running XP64 and only see 3.8gb of your 4gb+ RAM, you should revisit your BIOS settings.

I can't speak to how well RAM is utilized ... honestly, all RAM in a Windows machine is optimized poorly.

At work my machine has x64 with 8gb of ram and just having outlook, Explorer, and AutoCAD open, setting idle it's using around 2gb of ram. It's also doing constantly hooked the network which I'm sure if th cause of most that, but IMO the more RAM the better up to a point to where it's useless, but I'm not a PC guy.

                    who wants to play tf2?

Some people did a study that showed driving games make people angrier than any other game, and also cause the greatest heart rate/breathing changes. Where as FPS (first person shooters) were significantly lower.

Ding ding ... that, and the retarded shortcuts. You know, the ones where you use a mushroom and leap off the cliff and then bounce on the wall and end up at the finish.

I was glad to see more realism in the racing part of Mario Kart Wii. While I still don't really need the brakes, I do have to lift occasionally.

Why do I keep racing these weird cars?
Why can't I just get a miata and be happy?
