This was posted July 5th on the TGPR Facebook page:
This message comes to you with life-changing sadness and profound heartache. It quite literally hurts to write these words.
Today, the Munford AL and TGPR family lost a giant among men. Lawrence Hazel passed away suddenly at his home early this morning. He is survived by his wife, Betty, and sons Austin and Alan.
Lawrence was a friend. A confidant. A trusted and loyal ally who we all were lucky to have known. Our world was better with him in it, and without him we will forever be changed.
Many of you will want to know how to help, or what you can do. Right now we ask that you keep Lawrence's family in your thoughts and prayers in these coming days while they struggle with this tragic event.
As a track community, we will be relaying information as the family allows; please respect their privacy at this time and know that we will share any information when we can.
Lawrence loved his job, loved the track, and loved his customers with an energy that can't be duplicated. We will find ways to honor and immortalize that energy so Lawrence lives on in our hearts forever.
Please know that we will share all plans with you immediately.
Thank you.
