Don't feel bad. On the first race weekend in '03, even track management was confused, because the corner stations don't match the architect's drawing.

The problem is that the designer said there were 15, and some folks still believe him - http://www.barbermotorsports.com/par...ckgeometry.pdf

I was just reminded that Grand-Am is racing at Road Atlanta this year. If anyone wants to enjoy a Grand-Am only weekend it's curiously right after Barber: April 19-20.

It stands to reason that if the designer of the track created 15 turns, then it would be reasonable to say there are only 15 turns. Why did they change to 17 turns?

That's how many corner stations it takes to cover the track well, so, from an operations point of view, it makes sense. Of course, if it's a bike event, station 6 moves to 5a, and 17 moves to another position (either 17a or 16a, whatever the sign says,) for better flag sight lines. They are still called 6 and 17, to keep it simple.

I think IndyCar considered Barber to be 11 turns the first year. Some people count 14. Others 16. I think the control panel in the tower, which was there in 2003, has numbered switches for 17 "traffic" lights (although it has been a _very_long_time_ since I've actually looked at it.)

I figure if the track posts a race-line-illustrated, corner-numbered map at the base of the tower for all to see, it's official, and everybody should get used to it.

            If they had to do it over again, some might call the flag stations at Barber 1, 2, 2a, 3, 4, 4a, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8a, 9, 10, 11, 12, 12a, 13. That would be 13 corners, with 17 stations. Is that confusing enough? ;^)

The Gran-Am and Continental Tire series races on Saturday is where the action is at.

You can't have EZ ups anymore. They were making everyone take them down last year so they couldn't block the people behind them. People weren't too happy about it, but I thought it was pretty fair.

Some jerks probably set them up way too low on the hill. You gotta set em up towards the top, with the back legs dropped down.

                  Oh well. Trees it is.

I just got a nice tan line. We were just past the chicane on the back straight. Not going to figure out which corner that is lol but it was a pretty good spot. And walked around in the paddock a lot. Some cool stuff back there. Those mechanics are pretty quick at taking a car and turning it into a pile of parts and vice versa. May get some sigs on the helmet this year.
