  • Stereo guts all hangin out - just for fun!

Glad I didn't try to tackle this myself. It was apparently not the easiest stereo install, but it's done, and done pretty well from what I can tell. This, obviously, is pretty close to the starting point....

It's been way too dadgummed quiet on here so I thought I'd toss out a gratuitous photo. Everybody still in a turkey coma or what?

Anybody running with NASA-SE this weekend at Road Atlanta?

a couple buds from here are running the 8 hour enduro but most of us are saying no to NASA since their DE program is pretty lame.Im going to pick up a motor on saturday and putting up christmas treeage on sunday. So did you go for the bling bling on the stereo or just the basics?

I originally joined NASA *because* of their DE program - and the fact that you can earn "free" weekends by working, work 2/drive 1. Then I worked a couple of events, and realized real quick that I did not really want to cut my teeth with NASA. I will definitely do some DE with them, but after seeing & talking to the HPDE 1 & 2 drivers coming in from their first-ever runs at Barber & Road Atl, I decided I wanted to have some seat time BEFORE I drive with them. I do not see my out there with a mixed group of 40 novice/advanced drivers for my first outing. TGPR was much more my "speed"

Like yall, they are an awesome bunch of folks. And they put on some great events. Just not where this beginner wants to begin.

OK my new stereo - VERY basic! No blingy-bling. I already had a decent amp & kickazz speakers, 20 yrs old & still rocking. I had a 10-disc changer in my trunk that had seen its last days so I took that out, and replaced that and the old Kenwood in-dash with an Eclipse in-dash with 1 cd slot and a USB port. It's XM ready and has another port for iPod, etc. The guy laughed when he pulled out the in-dash unit I had and said, "Wow. I haven't seen one of these since the 80's!" It had been in there since 1989.

I'm loving the new set-up but will have to wait for another day to enjoy it. Not taking the Pcar to work in this rain. Plus I can hardly fit all my work stuff in there until I "de-track" my car. I guess I need to admit the season is over and put my car back in "street" clothes huh? (sniff!)

They combine 1&2...and 1&2 so a faster 2 driver is going to spend the first half of saturday stuck behind people that had never seen a racetrack up close before that day. I do not approve of it as an instructor. I'll still instruct it, becasue I love running DE4 with the pass-any with point, but it sucks for me students.

Joe Sharrow, R.L, and Tim Nagi are co-driving Tim's Frankenporsche in the 8 hour. I was going to crew for them but I have to work about 80 hours in from tomorrow morning till Monday at 6am.

My car is currently in pieces in prep for a cage...and I have no tires

i think that all depends on turn out. the the hpde i did w/ them last october (when i blew my engine ) all 4 hpde's had their own group. there were a few folks in hpde1 that were really fast (somebody in a gt2 comes quickly to mind, i waved him by coming out of the carousel & lost sight of him by the time i got through the chicane), but there were also 2 cars in particular that were really fast in hpde2.

NASA is getting some pretty bad press lately from DEers about the frequency of the DEers getting screwed over on track time due to racing incidents and delays in scheduling .If you are a worker who has earned worker points its probably not a huge issue ...but if you are a full cash paying DE guy then you expect X time for X $$s.the X$$s guys are not happy lately.Roberts crew is also abstaining for the most part and have opted to go the week after with CHIN motorsports.Enjoy your track time Chuck.Since you have a few hours on that track you will probably be right at home somewhere in the middle of all that mayhem .Hopefully by lunch Sunday...the crowd will thin out and you will really get some enjoyeable track time .

Well as you know I am pretty new to all this. NASA-SE was the first club I joined back in May, and even then at mid-season, there was plenty of internal debate about the NASA-NAT'L rules change that put HPDE1 and HPDE2 out together, which I believe they have only been doing nation-wide (except one Region I forget which, Massachusetts or something) for the past year, maybe 2? Anyway there is lots of internal discussion & adjustment going on as they get used to this change.

As with all change, you can't please all the people all the time. I totally understand why folks don't care for HPDE1/2 running together in what ends up being 40-car run groups. And after considering the whole thing myself, I opted to work this weekend instead of driving, because I just don't feel ready to get out there on a challenging track like RA and be a totally green first-timer in there with much more advanced drivers. I have been looking for track days where groups are smaller and novices go out in their own group - like the SCCA 1-day PDX back in October, which was my very first track outing. And I think it was a good choice for my first - for me.

In the end, we are lucky to have enough going on with several clubs running events at several tracks within pretty easy reach that drivers of all levels should be able to find a good experience, no matter how green or advanced they are. We vote with our wallets. Personally, I enjoy NASA events, and I look forward to being "up" to the way they do things & getting out on track with them...when I'm ready

Oh heartbreak! I'd have loved to insinuate myself into your speed machine again!

I'm hoping to catch some of the 8-hr Enduro tomorrow, and if I'm lucky, catch some kind of a ride while working pit & grid for the weekend.

NASA-SE's sessions always start on time, unless a previous group makes a big mess. I've seen instructor-only groups in other clubs make as much trouble as some race groups.

My track time sure isn't free - I could've gotten twice as much track time if I'd worked overtime at my real job. I've been around race tracks enough, and know the folks running NASA-SE well enough to know that they do everything they can to get every session started on time. Idiots or bad luck can shorten a session, though.

I just enjoy getting out there to ride the roller coaster. If somebody holds me up, I'll come through the pits to get away from 'em. I'm not too proud to point somebody by, either. I think the DE-2 folks get gridded ahead of the DE-1's, so they should get a few laps in before they catch the new guys. It's all fun, to me.

I'm going to sleep in a bit in the morning, and then after getting the car to the track, I'll probably go out and spell some of the corner workers during the enduro, if they need it. Otherwise, I'll just watch the show and get the car teched.
