you could get a jetta tdi for your price range. It wouldn't be fully decked out but it's still a nice car even in the lowest trim level.

At least with German car ownership you actually get to keep and use your soul on occasion. As soon as you buy a Japenese car your soul is wrapped in rice and seaweed then fed to closest demon to the purchase site.

09 vw's come with THREE YEARS maintenance.. and with fully sythetic everything, thats a good couple grand you save yourself. I'm not exactly sure why you don't like german cars, but in case you didn't know it, they've been ahead of the curve forever. Remember oh what was it.. World War II? When they had all those tanks? the stukas and panzers and tigers.. and the allies had those crappy shermans?

Germans know what they're doing, and if you buy a new car, you don't have to worry about doing anything to it, because warranty and maintenance will be performed by the dealer.. and if you get an 09 vw, it will all be complimentary.

A Tiburon sounds like a good idea. I owned an 03 brand new and it was a fabulous car....

not a 4 wheeled shark fan... no offense

the three german cars I have worked on have been nightmares, so the first three yrs are paid for what about the time AFTER that? Wiring is so horrid, they have a sensor for every sensor for every sensor. Parts are expensive as they come. Any work I do on my own voids the warranty. German car sales people have been horrid in my experiences. /soapbox

I just don't like em. endo story. anyway, I am 95% picking up a barely used 06 STi.

Yoda, I sold my soul back when eBay first came out. lol

and so facts aren't completely falsified in this (WOT) thread, allies had spitfires and corsairs, both of which were faster and had more firepower than the stukas

heres the gig ....germans make great cars .Yes they are differant to work on ,yes they can be expensive at times .VW and BMW (mini cooper)make very good cars and the replacement parts are just as competitively priced as any jap or american car part.I can buy a radiator from BMW for a 330ci for under 200 dollars .I cant buy a radiator for a 96 suburban from napa for under 200 dollars .Just a little visual .

Generalizations based on a couple of bad past experiences are pretty narrow minded especially for an educated man such as yourself ErvinI dont own a german made vehicle at this particular moment mainly because the correct opportunity hasn't presented itself but i did race VWs for a couple years and I must say ,the ford mustangs and pintos quivered when the rabbits and scirroccos rolled onto the scene .

The sheer fact that we were able to take a $600 junkyard motor with god only knows how many miles and whip up pon their cheating $10k esslinger butt was pretty gratifying .FWIW I still say you should shoot for an older IS300

By all means please pick up that STI. It'll be fun seeing your expression as a base Mini outruns you by 2 or 4 seconds raw time .

I couldn't resist that. It was just too easy.

The STI is a bad arse peice sir. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if that's the market I was in. I'm still gonna whip your butt LOL. But at least you'll be driving a great car.

ricky, your observation is lacking something, oh yeah consistency. Compare apples to apples. Tell me you can get a X5(which honestly still isn't apples to apples, more like plantains to bananas) radiator for less, I think you will find its a lil different.

If my only goal was to be fast I'd just copy Brian's STS Civic, but, since I am looking for an all around car and had great success in the north with an Evo, figured I'd try the STi.

whatever dude .You askedGo ahead and compare all you want but you are going to find strengths and weaknesses in all cars no matter what part of the globe they spawn from .That was all I was attempting to bring to the table .Since its quite obvious you dont seek sound advice ,but ,only seem to aspire to rebut and debate any post of recomendation ,I really dont see the entire point of your thread by large .

Now that I have gotten my frustration out due to being on day 4 of a quit smoking campaign.

congrats on day 4... I agree all cars have strengths and weaknesses, but you comparison was not valid.

I was seeking sound advice, but, meeting my req's, so I am picking up an 06 STi(hopefully will have it before the event, but, no holding my breath) mainly because the price is right, and, I kinda sorta took everyone elses advice on the 2nd car. i already had, but, was planning on selling a 94 escort. Good mileage/mpg and it was 300$.
