  • Indy at Barber

After not intending to attend , and then suddenly being given tickets (thankfull), me and Matt went at the last minute and had a good time . The good was being there and seeing cars racing...(always good). The bad= offsite parking is for the slackers. Next year I buy onsite parking whether I plan on going or not .

I wouldn't have parked in that preferred offsite parking over the BRC parking . It looked pretty sucky with all of the dirt and rough driveway. The bus service from BRC to the track was good but inconvenient due to the fact that if you want to see the whole race then you have to know that you will be in peril of sitting at the track untill most of the onsite folks leave ...or you leave early . If you dont leave early then the buses from BRC for pickup at the track cant get to the track due to all lanes being one way.

Moral of the story is ...I'll go again but I will plan ahead and buy onsite parking.

Yeah I went Friday and yesterday, but after my experience with the crowd last year I had no interest in dealing with that again this time. Glad you had fun!

My alternative to all of this was to get some good experience working corners, and to leverage that, like Ricky's benefactor did.

I was there all 5 (yes, five!) days, and all it cost was gas money. In fact, my need for a racin' fix was sated so well that I left after about 20 laps were completed out of the 90 scheduled for the last race of the weekend. It was actually harder work trying to be a spectator than it was to work a corner.

I saw you leaving Wednesday...me and a friend were coming out of Bass Pro and I spotted your Miata. I would have much rather worked a corner all weekend than been a spectator...the parking is just a nightmare.

Car Corral makes everything so much nicer. The only issues we really had were riding the tram at certain times in the day. It would have been faster to walk in most cases, but lugging around chairs and coolers and blankets and this and that just made a tram ride seem better.

If I could have gotten the time off work I probably would have worked as well but nay nay

I worked Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Sunday was a festival of flying carbon fiber! Evan and I worked together at Station 4 and had several instances of intrigue during the IndyCar race - particularly the blank looks on both of our faces when trying to report exactly what started the incident that saw the #27 spear off the track and re-arrange his rear suspension.

I ended up with part of a front wing off one of the KV Lotus cars (#5, I believe). The KVs are in the fence so often, though, that it's not a remarkable feat to end up with some of their bodywork...

                A Pressdog fan, eh?

                (Spoiler Alert!)

See http://pressdog.typepad.com/dogblog/...011-notes.html for his view of the race and the coverage.

It starts like this: "Welcome to the super-manicured gorgeous facility of racing, complete with giant flying coxman and spider sculptures. Insert IMS Radio's Mike King's teary homage to its beauty here. . . ."

I followed him on Twitter for a little while and then unfollowed; I saw some other people referring to his festival comment before - did he mention it for Barber as well?

Actually, a pretty good writeup, with comments on the TV coverage as well as the race, itself.
