  • Rebuild Titles

Does anyone have experience getting a 'salvage title' converted to a 'rebuilt' or regular title after fixing a damaged car? I bought a totaled MR2, then bought another 'donor car' to replace the damaged parts. I sold the donor car with the title.

Now I find out that the regulations in Georgia for getting a new title involve either new parts receipts, or the title of the donor car. Is the process any easier in AL?

I think you have to be a licensed rebuilder and have a state inspector look it over, in Alabama.

I checked into it a number of years ago and what Chuck posted is what it was back then.

Is anyone on this forum a licensed rebuilder?

We did it with a Cabrio, but in GA. We weren't required to be licensed, but it seems to be different here.

We bought the car already rebuilt and it came with receipts and photos of the repairs. We made an appointment for inspection and the guy came out and looked the car over, tested the lights and other safety items and that's about it. He didn't even drive it ... just started it. He didn't test the wipers or even check for airbags, as we had none.

It wasn't a big deal at all. You just need to have working safety equipment and receipts for the repairs. The guy was there for 10 min maybe.

Thanks to all for the information! If I can get through all this red tape, I'll be visiting your events with the MR2
