  • speeding ticket on I-65N north of I-20

Coming back from Tuscaloosa this past Saturday I got a speeding ticket on I-65N just north of I-20. That real bumpy stretch just before it smooths out. He ticketed me for doing 75 in a 45 He said he paced me for 2 miles. When he pulled me over I thought I was being pulled over because something was wrong with the small Uhaul trailer I was pulling. I never imagined I was speeding. I was flowing with the traffic. Going 45 would definitely have been too slow for the traffic.

Anyway just wanted to let ya'll in Bham know that the speed limit thru that area is 45.

Sorry to hear that Charles. It's posted 45 but I dare anyone to drive 45 through there. He didn't write you up in the construction zone did he?

I'd argue that you would have been in a wreck if you were going that slow, but good luck if you do.

          Sorry to hear that Charles-

Certainly no need to argue with him- they change the speed limits periodically, I think for revenue enhancement! Last time a flatbed dropped a coil at Malfunction Junction they changed the speed limit to 50 or 45 or something but they never changed the southbound signage, so I never knew if they were serious or not. Some days several cruisers were handing out citations and other days I would follow them through there at 65-70. When they punish the cars for the trouble with trucks, it's all just a revenue scam. That lasted a couple of weeks.

I do appreciate the lower speed limits where people are working. It's dangerous enough just driving; imagine standing out there working an 8 hour shift! The average car wizzing past is not feather light and the average driver is seldom focused on his surroundings. But then the problem is the "construction zone" can be 5 miles long but they can only work a 50' stretch a day. Moreover, they only work about half of the days and only some of the nights. So are they there or not ? Sometimes we never know! My conclusion: life is full of STUPID; we just have to deal with it and go on.

Oh yeah, From BHM up to about Smoke Rise they patrol in various City cars, County Sheriff cars, Highway Patrol cars, and a variety of un-marked units including Ford Explorers and Chevy Tahoes. They also like to run in tandem about a half-mile apart with the marked car in the lead, making that rough part just north of Malfunction even rougher than you think!

                Not really. Just kidding.

If its illegal to flash your lights to warn drivers of cops speedtraps, its probably illegal to give them a "heads up" on a forum, too. I'm just sayin' ...
