  • Sim Racing...

Yeah, I know we've been down this road before. I also know there are some of you out there that know that a PC can be used for more than Facebook and the occasional stupid vid on youtube.

Matt Williams has put together an awesome Endurance Touring Car mod for rFactor and we will be running a Team Endurance Championship. There are already several folks from the ALSCCA involved and we would like to see more.

The races will be full on Endurance events with driver swaps, so you need at least one team mate. We don't care whether you are in the same house and just switch seats or if you use the driver swap online in the software, WE JUST WANT YOU TO RACE!

If anyone has any questions or wants to get involved (cough Alan, Chris, Bill, David and others cough) ask and ye shall receive answers!

It would be great if some of you would join us. These WTCC cars are loads of fun to drive and we've got drivers registered from across the globe already. The competition should be fierce with some of these guys.

Like Sean said, we're running the events on rFactor and on some of the best tracks from around the world ... Interlagos, Istanbul, Yas Marina, Road Atlanta and Adelaide to name a few.

I've done my best to make the series fun and challenging, with cars in all different configurations ... FWD, RWD, sedan, hatch, gasoline and diesel. The cars are WTCC spec at 280 hp and are all unique. they vary in hp/tq curve, weight, balance, grip, fuel usage, tire wear, etc. This is not a spec race, but a true test of driver skill, planning and endurance.

Again, I hope a few more of you guys can sign up and drive with us. A huge grid will make this series much more exciting.

You can find info for the series on our forum ... http://www.virtualautocross.com/foru...27e24a23df2d38 ... or follow the group on Facebook ... http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/...1347488&ref=ts

I will be back in a week, going to Bonnaroo this week. but, after I think I'd be up for getting back into sim racing. I have experience with GPL/NR2003/GTR2/GTL/rFactor. also have a good bit of endurance racing experience in rFactor. I'm also the MNRL CanAm season 1 champion.

here's also a photo of one of the first endurance races I did back in 2008. I'm in the #173, and it turned out that was the real AJ Allmendinger:

We'd love to have you Joseph.

Oh, and I see Tom O'Gorman on that list. We've raced with him a bit at our Virtual Autocross events. He's insanely fast. I think he's shown some of our locals "what's up" at national tour events as well.

If this was sometime when I was in birmingham I think it would be fun to codrive with someone! I dont have a pc so I would definitely have to be at the same house and switch seats instead of doing an online driver swap. Anyone that needs a codriver let me know!

Man, I would love to participate. I started out in slot cars, had the fastest Mustang 350 GT in B'ham, and managed the track for a year at the Bowling Lanes at Eastwood Mall. Then bought a new '65 MG-B and began autoXing. A few years ago Alan intorduced me to sim racing on Live for Speed where he (in Leeds), Matt (in Decatur), Eric (in Alabaster) and me (in Cullman) could all enjoy our private sessions together on Fern Bay Course or AutoXing on a parking lot. We really had a blast. I have since migrated to Racing Legends where I pilot a beautiful old '60-70's Bimmer around Road Atlanta against the AI crowd with great enjoyment, but likely not competitive times. The car is fun and Road Atlanta is a real fun challange.

I know your sim environment is a quantom leap ahead of all this, and racing with you guys in particular would be as thrilling as it would be educational. The problem nowadays is time. I seldom get to drive the Bimmer, much less the real thing, Black Beauty. It's a full time job maintaining the house/yard/garden/Man'sRoom/working/some traveling/and trying to sell the house. When it sells, I'll be building or renovating another house, and so it goes; but, man, I would love to participate.

Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection ...... again.

David, you have to make time for the things you like ... I'm doing the same thing. Just snatch up Alan and tell him you guys are running and put it on a calendar, then do it. It's one day a month(ish). You're saying you can't spare a day?

Matt, I have finished our car and got all the files transfered into the game, but I am having one problem. When I take the window template, put our names on it with the American Flag, blah blah blah, and try and save it as the .dds file, it says "too many channels, cannot save". I am using Photoshop and don't know what the deal is. I can save every other template but not the window one. Could I send the .psp file to you and see if you can figure it out?

The past couple of days we've been running the car in its livery but with the Jorg Muller windows. We've been doing some testing seeing the differences btw running the softs and hards as well as fuel numbers. Its really an exciting game with so many details!!! We can easily spend a couple hours doing testing and we don't even realize its been that long. If anyone is wanting to join in please please please do so!!!! I think john and I will have an extra computer and an extra steering wheel if you want to play but don't have the equipment.

You always want to flatten the layers before saving as a DDS, for the body and the windows. In the menu, select Layer > Flatten Image. That should get rid of the error. Then, save as a DDS. Also, you want to use DXT1 (RGB) for the body and DXT5 (RGB+Alpha) for the windows.

                            Hey,
You motivated me to break out the wheel and actually install rFactor. So far so good. But I can't get to your series. I downloaded all your stuff. I copied all of the files from the folders (in the unzipped master folder) to the respective folders in the installation directory. When I run the game, It crashed when I select the series, so something is missing.

Also, the tracks zip file won't unzip with Winzip.

I did copy the tire patch stuff as well.

                            What am I missing?

BTW, I can't make the race tomorrow. Taking the kids to Toy Story 3.

try 7zip to unzip the files. Everyone else that has installed it has been fine. I can come by and get it up and running if you like. We would love to have you running with us.
