Hey everybody. My name is Joseph Cote, I'm a 22 year old tech student and I will be moving to the birmingham area in the fall. I'm currently a member of the Mississippi region SCCA and I started out in karts, did some autocrossing, and the 2008 Skip Barber Karting Scholarship shootout. I was going to actually build a bosozoku style third gen Camaro until I realized I'd be living right near Barber, Talladega GP, Roebling Road, Road ATL, and others I'm probably missing. So, I'm probably going to buy a club racing car and get back into the swing of things. I'm new to club racing, and am curious about what sort of cars I'd be able to get into or what classes are competitive and decently full around these tracks. I'm wanting a RWD car, and I figure my budget for buying a car would max out around $8k. I'm fine with higher horsepower stuff, but I also like momentum racing. Started in 4 stroke karts and pretty much drove the whole gamut up to 125cc shifters. Can anyone clue me into this and get me pointed in a good direction? Also, is the American Iron class popular around here?

Also also, is there a used race car classified database type thing like cars.com or autotrader that I can browse through?

Thanks. I'll see you guys in the near future.

I cannot speak much to the club racing scene in the area, or really to much other than the few autocross events i have attended in Birmingham. you might be interested in this car from the classifieds here http://alscca.org/community/showthread.php?t=1667
Its pretty much ready to go race spec miata, and is somewhat close to your price range.

      Welcome,

You can check SpecMiata.com for (obviously) Spec Miata info.
You might be able to get into a car for that price renage.

Additionally IT classes will have some B and C classes well within your price range.
Info can be found at Improvedtouring.com

You probably need to factor $1000-1500 over your purchase price to freshen up a car, tires, spares and to change seat, harnesses, steering wheel: etc. to fit.

      Welcome and Good Luck,

      Todd
