  • Friggin trash on the freeway!!!

Guess who ran over a friggin' 4x4 piece of lumber on 459 today? Looks like I bent a wheel, can't tell on the control arm. Picked up a distinct shimmy after contact. I'll investigate after work.

    Arrrgh!!

If it would've been a cone you could have dodged it.

it was a 10 footer at least covered the majority of one lane and some of the other. Cars scattered and I had no where to go. Metal to metal on either side or hit the board.

I took the wheel this morning to Autowhiz the best wheel balancers and tire mounters in the business. (Shameless sponsor plug) and the wheel is way bent. Good news is the suspension was undamaged as the poor wheel took the brunt of the impact.

Wheel Fix-It here in Huntsville can fix it for you. Cost is $175 painted. I recently brought a wheel there for Clay. It was a flat black wheel that they couldn't get painted to match the others. $125 if they don't paint it.

I can vouch for those guys. The body shop I used to work at used them all the time and never had any issues.

Why do I keep racing these weird cars?
Why can't I just get a miata and be happy?

The first day I drove the Evo to work (car was 2 days old), I was behind a pickup carrying sod on GA-400. 3 sod hunks peeled off the stack right in front of me. I was far enough back to slow more and let them flatten out and drive over. Close one.

On I-85 in downtown Atlanta I was riding with a friend behind a CSX truck when a 16" bolt fell off the back and impaled his AC condensor and radiator. That was a fun one.

Be glad it was just the wheels and you didn't make any drastic maneuvers to avoid it and get in to something much more dangerous. I like to think that racing helps us to react to things like this without drastic inputs to the vehicle, which makes us much safer on the road.
