  • ALSCCA Board Meeting Attendance Discussion

Hey yall, we just elected new officers! OR somebody did. I did not go to the meeting to cast a vote so I cannot claim any responsibility. In fact, I have never attended a club board meeting. The board members always encourage everybody to come, and I hear they are actually kind of enjoyable! And yet - I have never gone!

Hmm. What would get me to a board meeting?

    CHOCOLATE!

Ha. No really - uuuh...a set beginning and ending time? a chance to win a free AX admission?

How about you? If you are not a board member and you go to meetings, tell us about it here. Or if you don't go, what would get you to go?

There is a perception that it is a BOARD meeting. If it were more clearly a ALSCCA Club Meeting I think more people would attend. But, I know what it is and still don't go. I was just rubbed the wrong way when I did go, but that was a long time ago. I need to go again now that we have a quiet, useful venue for the meetings.

Let's be honest ... ALSCCA is made up a a few people that like to race together. It's not really pushed to be presented as a "club" that has regular meetings and tasks and such. I know it's organized that way, but it just isn't coming off that way to the members. I think more "club" activities would help this ... something more than just racing.

The last time we tried that, it turned out to be Iron Bowl weekend, IIRC. I think we had more people at the Board of Directors meeting, that month. I know at least one past RE really wanted to do this, but it was hard to find an appropriate venue and date.

No the next meeting is Dec 8th, it's always the 2nd Tuesday of every month. The start time is 6:30pm, which is when the meeting is called to order. People usually get there around 6:00 to eat and chat. The ending time varies though because sometimes we have a lot on the agenda to talk about like when we have the club race is coming up or we just get stuck on one topic for a while. So there really is not a definite ending time although we try to keep it to the point because some of us drive about an hour to get there. And we do have a great location now that is relatively that we have to ourselves most of the time. I did attend one meeting at the Pizza place and that was mass chaos so we are very thankful for this new venue, I think it has worked out great!

As far as what it’s like I encourage you to come and see for yourself! We have fun and take care of business at the same time. There are important matters that are discussed that have to be voted on and such but for the most part it is laid back with lots of talking and idea sharing. We all want the club to prosper and grow for the good of the members so that is our main goal. So if you have some ideas you want to share, or you just want to see some of the behind the scenes action I encourage you to come and see for yourself.

Again the next meeting will be December 8th, the meeting will begin at 6:30pm.

Hey, did anybody notice that the original post was put in the "Off Topic" section?

Well, we now have a new section titled The Business of ALSCCA", and this thread would fit there very well, perhaps in a "General Discussion" sub-section.

Thanks to whomever is keeping up with the forum!

I recently was voted in on the board and before I was, I still went to the meeting just to keep up with what's going on. I always wondered why the SCCA did things the way they do, now I know. Since I am the TT Chair, I also felt a responsibility to go to update the board on the status of the event pre and post. Now that I'm one of the Solo Chairs, I'll have even more to talk about.

We have a small informal meeting with each "Chair person" and the rest of the evening is mostly auto, race discussions, some political.

You should come to the meeting, if at least to throw an idea at the wall and see if it sticks.

We're usually wrapped up at around 8:00-8:30pm

It's still in off-topic isn't it? I do not see the "Business of ALSCCA" section either. Am I missing something?? A dedicated forum area for club/board feedback would be great!

There's only a section for BoD minutes, not one for discussing club business.

I guess I'm starting to see things that aren't there:

we like they said there is only a minutes section, not a general under the Business of ALSCCA. i think that would be a programming thing to add it but i'm sure our new website guy can get that added for us.

It's a simple add and I agree that it would be a useful section, as this is not an off-topic discussion.

I just tried to post something to the new sub-section of "ALSCCA Business" and do not have permission to do so.

                              Ma'ma, my I please.....
