  • A random thing happened ...

It's pretty easy to tell that I was driving the car when this happened ... which F'n sucked! I was just driving at about 35 mph on the main road by my house (Hwy. 280 in Chelsea) and "BOOM!" it just exploded.

I flinched pretty hard but luckily didn't swerve or anything. I quickly made sure I was okay and pulled over at WalMart to check out the damages. Nothing is damaged other than the glass. My ear was ringing for a few minutes and there seemed to be some minor hearing loss for the rest of the night, but it seems better today.

I spoke with the local dealer this morning and they are going to look it over for a possible warranty repair. I don't really think it's going to happen though unless they find something really goofed up with the regulator or motor for the window.

I priced OE glass and it is $249 which is basically exactly what my insurance deductible would be. Add labor to that and it might be worth the claim.

I talked to a few people and it seems that this isn't common at all, but it does happen. Usually it's caused by faulty glass or the alignment on the tracks or something causing uneven pressure on the glass. Have you guys ever seen it?

Didja hit a bad spot in the road? Some of these potholes and raised seams really wreak havoc on the suspension not to mention kidneys.

Nothing in my eye. It mostly fell straight down. But, there are little tiny shards all over the car ... console, dash, passenger seat, arm rest ... everywhere. I felt all itchy after getting out of it. It definitely needs a good cleaning.

This happened to my mom's Passat a couple years ago. It was sitting in the drive way when a rock got kicked out from the cutting deck of our lawn mower. The hatch glass shattered just like your window Matt.

I'm glad you don't have a case of bullet to the face syndrome right now.

There was no one cutting grass in the area. That was my second thought after checking if I was shot ... lol. If it was a projectile, I would have been something kicked up from the road.
