  • The GTI...

    ... is no more

Sunday after the auto-x I stayed in Birmingham for a while with a few friends. We ate dinner then went to take some picks around town and just hang out for a while. Well, 10 o'clock rolls around and I hit the road back to Auburn...yeah, I know I should have left a few hours before that. By 12:30 I was less than one mile from my trailer in Auburn when I dosed off and subsequently ran off the road. I slid down near a tree line and then came to a violent halt in a drainage ditch.

Thanks to God, I walked out with just a scratch on my arm and a sore collar bone. Unfortunately, the GTI wasn't so lucky. It's a goner. The estimates for repair almost exceed the value of the car.

I'll probably try to find another VW, but I am gonna try to get into something a little older (maybe early to mid 90's) to try to offset the inevitable insurance increase.

    I'll keep you guys updated...

That is terrible. I am glad to hear that your injuries are minor. Hope you get enough from insurance for something decent.

Oh, man...I'm so sorry to hear that. Are we talking about the beautiful orange GTI?
I am glad you came out of it with no injuries.

Which GTI? I don't know the usernames associated with each ... either way that sucks, but at least you weren't hurt!

This was the red 4th gen GTI. I've been battling the Kilgore bros all season in ST, and trying to keep up with Chris Warren.

I'm pretty sure I'll get enough for a hefty down-payment on a replacement car. Like I said I'm looking into early 90's VWs, so I don't think I'll have a hard time getting back in the driver's seat. I'm just hoping that by moving to an older car the insurance increase might be offset slightly.

Dude! That really sucks! You were so cool and helped us check the codes on Katie's GTI before you left. I feel bad now ... =(

You'll find something new soon man. Maybe a G60 Corrado? Maybe you can get one that hasn't caught on fire ... yet.

Sorry to hear that. I had a 337 Edition that I sold to a kid and he ended up totaling it. I didn't own the car anymore but every time I saw it, I looked at it as my car. I feel your pain.

Just saw this and I don't know if it would be inline with what you're looking for but I thought it was interesting.

It's funny you say that...I've actually been looking into a '93 SLC. VW made such a cool design with those cars!

That's awesome! I would love to have something like that, but I need a bit more tame daily driver to replace the GTI.

Sorry to hear about your loss dude. I have had a few close calls behind the wheel as far as falling asleep goes myself. I hope you can find a replacement soon.
