  • ITR wants to come play

Dan here looking for a little help. I'd like to run with y'all at TGPR starting next year with my Integra Type-R. From the research I've done, it looks like it'll be in ITR.

    Here's the backstory-
I went through the TT school April of last year in another car.
I've been running with NASA this year at NOLA Motorsports Park in what started out as a bone stock car.
I also occasionally autox in STX, so the car has been setup to play in both with minimal changes.

    Mods are-
Two way non-remote dampers, springs, top hats, lowered ride height, 15x8s, rear bar, intake, header, 200 cell cat and cat back.
I run 225 street tires for AX and Hoosier SM7s (205) for TTD.

Is ITR the right class? I ran it there in May and looking at the times for the class, it's on par.

Also I'll be looking for some help on safety equipment for the car. It's a clean slate as far as that goes.

    TIA

You can run it in ITR or you can run it in STU/STL. Do you have a cage or Bar?

Thank you! No bar yet. Full stock interior. My plan is to use a bolt-in 4 pt from Kirk or something similar. I want to be able to install & remove it fairly easy.

Do you really want to compete in the ITR given is relative rarity?

Well I bought it to enjoy and even though it's a very nice example, it's not museum quality.
Two years of ownership= 18K miles with 5 TTs, 3 track days, a few autocrosses and a rallyx being the highlights... I'm having too much fun to worry about resale value. It really is a fun car to drive and it begs to be driven hard.

I'll trade you a CRX that is significantly faster for track work. HAHA. I need a street car and you need a track car. It could even have a roll bar by the time you pick it up. The nice thing with the CRX is its competitive anywhere you want to go in the future. You could remove the interior and run it in STL, FP, ITU, SPU, several NASA classes, etc. Plus its lighter on than the Integra and easier on tires, but has all of the good stuff of the Integra, such as the GSR/ITR engine, transmission, Brakes, suspension, etc.

LOL. Well in that case bring it out for time TT action.

You should run it in a Street Prepared autox class so you don't get hassled for not having road race compliant safety equipment. If you want to class the car in ITR, you would need the proper IT legal cage, fire extinguisher, race seat, etc.

If you pick a street prepared class (don't know where the ITR fits, maybe DSP) or Street Unlimited you can run a roll bar and safety equipment associated with the autocross classes (obviously still being time trial safety compliant).

                Does that make sense?

If you want to run in ITR, then you'll need a 6 point roll cage minimum. A roll bar will not suffice because ITR is a GCR (General Competition Rules) Class.

As Brett mentioned, if you are only going to run a 4 point roll bar, then you will have to run in one of the "autox" classes. The big differences are the roll cage requirements, and interior removal. Brett was correct, your Integra Type R would be classed in DSP. If you are confused, don't worry, you probably should be. Send me an email at timetrials_at_alscca_dot_net and I will provide more information and feedback.

In general, since the ITR class is a "road racing" class as defined by SCCA, then those cars are allowed to be fully gutted, and are required to have a little more safety protection. DSP, since it is an "autox" class, does not allow the full gutting of the car and some of the interior will be required to remain intact. In reality, none of that probably really matters since you can run as much interior as you want in either class if you don't want to totally strip out the car yet.

DSP seems like the class for you as you want to run a Roll Bar.

Regarding safety equipment, I have uploaded the TT Driver rules. Here are some particulars. Any questions, you can reach me at farrout at knology dot net

REQUIRED DRIVER SAFETY EQUIPMENT: Owing to the competitive nature of these
events, driver's personal safety gear is required: Driving suits carrying FIA standards (8856‐1986 or 8856‐2000) or SFI 3‐2A/5 or higher (e.g., /10, /15, /20) certification; Suits carrying SFI 3‐2A/1 certification may be worn only with fire resistant underwear; Gloves made of leather and/or accepted fire resistant material containing no holes; Socks made of accepted fire resistant material; Face coverings (balaclavas) of accepted fire resistant material for drivers with beards or mustaches; and Shoes with uppers of leather and/or nonflammable material that at a minimum cover the instep. Window safety nets or arm restraints are required. Arm restraints are required on all open cars. Closed cockpit cars may use either arm restraints or a driver’s side window net. Crash helmets meeting the latest or immediately preceding Snell Foundation standard (SA2010, SAH2010, SA2005), SFI standards 31.1A, 31.2A, or FIA standards shall be used. The use of a head and neck support system is highly recommended.

FIRE SYSTEMS: All vehicles shall meet one of the following minimum requirements:
 On‐board fire systems per GCR.
 Halon 1301 or 1211, two (2) pound minimum capacity by weight.
 Dry chemical, two (2) pound minimum with a positive indicator showing charge. Chemical:
10 BC or 1A10BC Underwriters Laboratory rating.
The fire extinguisher shall be securely mounted. All mounting brackets shall be metal and of the quick‐release type.

DRIVER RESTRAINTS: All drivers participating in TT or Hill Climb Events shall utilize either a
five, six or seven point restraint harness meeting one of the following: SFI specification 16.1 or 16.5, FIA specification 8853/1985 including amendment 1/92 or FIA specifications 8853/98 and 8854/98. All harnesses shall bear labels bearing either SFI or FIA certification. Shoulder straps shall be separate. Two inch shoulder straps shall only be used with head and neck devices. SFI and FIA harnesses are not subject to a time constraint but shall be in good condition (no cuts, abrasions, abnormal wear, etc).

SEATS: It is highly recommended that the driver’s seat be replaced with a one‐piece bucket type race seat and shall include an upper brace if non‐FIA homologated.

Thanks a lot for clearing this up, guys! I don't want a full cage since I'm planning to continue to drive it to the track. So DSP it is.
I've got a SFI SPEC 16.1 6 pt harness dated Feb '11 and a 2.5lb fire bottle already. My driver's safety gear is good to go too.
It looks like a trip to Huntsville for the roll bar needs to happen soon.

Just keep in mind that Street Prepared is an autocross class so the car has to be class legal per the Solo rulebook plus having the TT required safety equipment.

^Roger that. It's not even fully STX prepped, so no problems there.

Your car will need to have a TT logbook issued for it. When you come to Huntsville for the rollbar, let me know and we can get it done while you are here.

As long as you bring all the safety equipment.
