  • Annual tech inspection party.

At the sediv convention this weekend I asked Rich Crowell about the possibility of having annual tech inspections in Birmingham before the 2014 season starts. He said he should be available, but needs at least 4 commitments from people who would show up for an annual tech. We've done this at Element Garage in the past. I have not yet talked to Edwin about the shop being available. I know they've been busy.

So, who is ready for an annual? Please list dates that are convenient for you as well as dates you would like to avoid and we'll see if we can find something that serves the most drivers. We're thinking a Saturday in early February. Also, please post if you'll need a log book issued.

If you have an idea for a location that is convenient for everyone and can accommodate several trailers at a time, please share.

    This will be
    SATURDAY, FEB 8TH
    ELEMENT GARAGE
    441 UNIVERSITY BLVD
    BIRMINGHAM, AL

Rich will be there at 10am.

Would this be an option for a newbie such as myself?

Yes. And it makes it easier than having it done at the track since issuing a log book requires a more thorough inspection.

Just make sure your car is prepared as it well be driven on track with the possible exception of wheels and tires. You should also bring your driver gear. Helmet, suit, etc.

Note...annual inspections are SAFETY inspections. Have all you gear with you and make sure your brake lights and kill switch work as required. Read section on windshield glass in GCR.

Cool. I'm in if my new roll bar is ready and I get it installed in time. From what they told me, it should be ready sometime around the 31st.

Yes. They can be done at the event. It's just nice to get them out of the way before hand so you have time to correct any discrepancies without missing an event. If you have to wait until the event, i suggest arriving as early as possible and make sure we know you'll need a log book issued when you register.

Yes. A novice permit will let you compete in Time Trials until you are upgraded to a full license. If you successfully complete the school in April you can be upgraded to a full TT/HC license.

Your license has nothing to do with being tech'd and having a logbook. The tech inspection process is a little more thorough than an auto x tech and focuses primarily on the safety components. They will check to make sure your roll bar/cage, fire extinguisher, seat, harness, window net or arm restraints, kill switch(if required), and driver safety gear are all in order. The tech inspection will not make sure your car is legal for you're class, but your class will determine what equipment you're required to have (kill switch for example).

The rules for 2014 are new and much simpler. Read them and don't be afraid to ask questions.
