Discussing the worker incentives on another forum, a NE region's setup came up.

Work 3 events, get a free PDX.

Thoughts? It might help with our worker problems.

This is basically what NASA Southeast and Midsouth offer, at a slightly different ratio - 4 days helping = 2 days on track. NASA Southeast also offers cash payment in lieu of the tradeout. Not sure about Midsouth region.

I have 3 weekends in the bank, but I can't afford to cash in the vouchers, right now.

Depending on where you cash it in, the benefit is worth up to about $100/day worked. There is a limit on how many can play for free at a time, to make sure the organization doesn't lose money at popular venues.

The NASA-SE worker incentive is what got me started working corners. Worked a Road Atlanta & Barber event & drove the next (and last) NASA-SE Barber event for free.

I like the NASA formula...work 4 days earns 2 track days. Only full days working an ALSCCA track event count and someone will have to keep records. Good for a free TGPR entry and it does not have to be limited to PDX drivers. If TT entry costs more than PDX then the worker credit is a discount equal to the PDX entry fee. Have to limit the # of freebie entries per event to 2 or 3, whatever makes financial sense.

In the event we can pull off some sort of Barber PDX we almost certainly will not be able to afford to give free days or worker discounts to drive, but workers would earn credit toward a TGPR event.

Okay, so let me get this straight, we still pay the workers, give free worker laps, and then credit towards an event later on?

At this point, I feel we are getting really close to just making the jump to paying FbF and coming out about the same...

If you take worker laps away, that's another 30 minute session that Instructors could run and they would pay us $50, instead of us paying workers to be on track. We need to work out what FbF charges, and really lay this out. In the end, you are talking about $150 for a free event, $60 for a weekend worked, lunch (what $10 a day) and free time on track. You are looking at a worker for a weekend costing us $230, plus whatever we would deem track time to be.

No double-dipping. You could let folks choose to be paid (& maybe worker laps) or to receive credit (no worker laps).

What Rod said. You either take the payment/autocross/tracktime incentive, or you take the work X get one free incentive.

Since I'm sure there are people who work for the free autocross or money and don't ever plan on doing a PDX/TT, and vice versa.

I think the real question would be, do you make them work the weekend and count it as 1 event, or do you do it on a day by day basis. So a weekend plus a day gets you the next day on that second weekend.

keep it simple...4 days worked, with no other compensation, gets credit for a full weekend PDX/TT.

by "no other compensation" this also means no credit if you work one day to drive the second at a discount. You can however choose to work one day & receive credit and drive one at the normal one-day rate (if that option is offered for the event in question)

I also suggest that no "perk" be given to any worker who misses the worker meeting or bails early. Miss the meeting? Then no laps, no credit, no pay.

BTW, if there's a shortage of instructors, I think that may be due to our discount being less than that of other organizations. . . I know most groups used to give instructors free track time. IIRC, some were starting to charge something, but not much.

We need to hear from Ricky, Bobby, Geoff, RL, ChuckB or others who instruct often to find out what they expect in exchange for their hard work.

Chuck, you're right. Most groups do give free track time. BMWCCA charges instructors $25 to cover insurance.

I also understand having to pay more with SCCA due to the variety of run groups that limit track time and not having a dedicated "instructor" run group.

Also, I'm usually given two students with other groups. I would highly recommend not loading instructors down with multiple students if not offering a deep discount. (free)

Yes the work 4 and run for free with no other pay/laps sounds like a good idea, but do we even have that many track days to be able to work 4 and drive 2??? We have 6 track days a year?

You don't have to have them all in one year. Work both TGPR events in 2013 and run 2014 spring for free. IF we have a Barber race then you could work spring TGPR & Barber and run fall TGPR for free.

The idea is you see the two dates and think Oh great this will be easy and I'll get a free weekend out of it. You go to the first one and finish it up, and didn't have any fun, but you want the free track day so you might as well just go to the second one and put in your time for the freebie.

I think this is a good idea and will mention it to the TVR guys, Craig and Brett, and ask if they want to do it as well. In all honestly, we could do it just for ALSCCA members if they aren't interested. It would be easier if we had both TGPRs and Barber but if not, people will just have to learn patience. Thanks for the idea Cholewa
