The Central Carolinas Region of SCCA is proud to announce
    a new hillclimb site
    and a new hillclimb event
to be run June 11th and 12th this year.

Take a DEEP BREATH and hold it before you read this…

    INTRODUCING…..

Chasing the Dragon Hillclimb – Robbinsville, NC

    • 2.2 Miles long course near the famous Tail of the Dragon with over 1000 feet of elevation
    • a great mix of blind sweepers and straights in some of North Carolina’s most beautiful forests
    • waterfalls next to start line and a scenic overlook deck at top
    • “formula car” friendly but grippy asphalt with no potholes or uneven surfaces
    • guard rails and earth walls from start to finish
    • likely the largest group of spectators at a hillclimb in years!

Drivers – Registration will open soon. Records available but only one per class
Courseworkers – Free accommodations and food. Sign up soon!
Spectators – welcome at no charge
More information to follow at www.ccrscca.com

Why did we ask you to hold your breath?

Because if you held your breath as long as you can, you’re not even half way up THIS course!

Come grab the dragon by the tail!

            kind of misleading...

they canceled the Wolf Ridge Hillclimb in NC that was going to be that same weekend. its more of a change of venue than a 'new' event.

HOPEFULLY, both sites will have an event next year.

Caj... please know there was no intent to mislead in ANY way. We were very disappointed when we were told the Wolf Ridge site construction had roads torn up so we would be unable to run there in June. We canceled the event on April 6th and made the announcement to all. On April 7th, I received a call from Mark Seiler that the Robbinsville Tourism Authority were interested in having us put on a hillclimb. On Saturday, April 9th, I drove up to meet with them for the first time and look at the site. That was the first time ANY of us had ever looked at the site. The CRAZY idea that we could make this happen and run the event on the date originally planned for Wolf Ridge was rolling around in my head. After working with our own SCCA site inspectors, the Forestry Commission, The NC Department of Transportation, local government and the Tourism Authority, we received permits to proceed this morning, April 28th at 9 AM. Some of these permits require 45 days to obtain normally but we received wonderful support from all agencies involved. THIS is a new event... and it is a new event site. Wolf Ridge site owners have told us that they will welcome us back next year.

We would welcome you to come drive, work or watch... along with free entrance to the event and nice spectator areas, a beautiful scenic Observation deck at the top, and fellowship with other SCCA members... there are 2.2 miles of wicked fast road with 20 turns...most of them blind sweepers over 1000+ feet of elevation. When you walk behind the drivers running this event... listen for clanking noises.

              I promise... you'll enjoy it. I wouldn't mislead you...

I'm bitter because my brother-in-law decided, after 37 years, to get married on that weekend. I had targeted that event (or the new one) as one of the highlights of my year. I really want to be a bad husband and participate, but...

Just got back from the mountains and got to see the hillclimb site. The turns look very interesting, but the road is washboard rough the whole way up. It is not as fast and straight as the video looks. Paddock must have been a nightmare, barely room on the side of the road on a pretty steep incline. There is a dead end road to the entrance of the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest right at the entrance of the hillclimb road that maybe could be used for the paddock, if it could be worked out where tourist could still get in and out. There is an overlook at the end of the hillclimb road that is one of the most breathtaking mountain views that you will see. The road has been marked for repair. Hopefully will get to run it next year.
