potential problem for the Apr.2011 TGPR TT

OK...this is the thing.

4/16&17 2011 is the proposed date for the TGPRTT school.

That is the same weekend as Talledega Superspeedways NASCAR race.The weekend after is Easter and the weekend before could very well be TVRSCCAs heart o dixie double SARRC at NSS .The Road Atlanta TT is the 3rd w/e in May on the SEDIV schedule . It is becoming evident that if the schedule goes as it is right now .....Hotel rooms for out of town entrants are going to be expensive at the least if not scarce. Anybody have any suggestions ?

Are there other potential dates later in the year, but prior to any hillclimbs?

The school needs to be early enough to allow folks to participate in the hillclimb program, or it's probably not worth having.

Rooms will probably be hard to find on NASCAR weekend. In '98, I was thrown out of my long-term room at an Anniston motel because it was already reserved for the race weekend (at a much higher price,) and I couldn't find a room much closer than Augusta. Several new places have been built in the area, since then, but I don't know if it's helped pricing or availability.

Maybe we could rent a big tent like the one we used for registration at BMP in '03, and let everybody stay there. . .

Moving toward May is not ideal . It is likely to cause people who may be on the edge of not being able to afford TT unable to make the TGPR and the RA event .Ideally you want to maintain a 3-4 week gap between events .

We are still waiting to see if Chattanooga and TVR are going to be able to do a TT at NSS in March. I guess the major unknown variable is going to be whether or not TVR is able to get NSS the wknd before for the Heart O Dixie race . If the track is not available April 8-10th we can move the TT to that weekend (not that I wish them any misfortune because I don't) but otherwise we would have to try to do the TT April 2-3.

This would probably guarantee that it will be cold, especially at night but there is nothing firm on that weekend ...there is only ARSCCAs TBD event that will hinge on whether A.M.P. is ready to race on by then. April 30-May 1 is as close as we could get to the RA TT on May21 but Apr30-May1 is the Jim Starke double SARRC at Roebling . That is not a great thing to be on top of due to a lot of RR guys like Craig Farr and John Waight and others who would have to choose one or the other ...thats not good at all.

Additionally if IRL and GrandAm go back to Barber the same weekend as this year it would put them there Apr.10-11&12....OYYYYYYYYY my head hurts .

Your "workers" except for Chuck are generally autocrossers who come out and want to help the club by working the event for track time. March is going to be pushing it, because you are probably looking at early March. Last weekend of March is going to be AEA weekend so people are going to be going out of town for that week. Alot of the school-age people will be taking advantage of this week to spend out of town. So that means that you are getting in to the first autocross event, or happening BEFORE the first autocross event, which will make it very hard to get the word out to people to help work.

correct, Chuck is an autocrosser.......but just look at the tag on his van, first and foremost, Chuck is a FLAGR. Chuck doesn't need to be reminded or coerced with track time to be a worker at the TT event.

I'm seeing indications that the IndyCar schedule will be made official on Friday, Sept. 10, so that will clarify the picture.

. . . and the Barber Motorsports Museum FLAGR tag is now on the Miata. The "new" van has an Earnhardt tag that says 76WNS, one of several tags that were created for the International Motorsports Hall of Fame. We'll be supporting both museums when we renew at the end of the month.
