    House Passes Teen Driving Bill

Montgomery - The Alabama House has passed a bill that adds additional restrictions for some teenage drivers. The House voted 80-10 for the bill that requires some 16 and 17-year-old drivers to have a restricted license. The bill now goes to the Senate for debate.

Under the restrictions the young drivers would only be allowed to have one person in the car with them and would have an 11 p.m. curfew on weekends.

The current law requires the young drivers with restricted licenses to have no more than three passengers and requires them to be off the road by midnight on weekends.

The law sponsored by Rep. Mac Gipson, R-Prattville, also requires 15 and 16-year-olds with a learner's permit to have a licensed driver with them who is 21-years-old or older.

I thought a learner's permit always required that? That was the rule when I had mine ...

that law fits very well w/ my intention to get a miata (absolutely not my black one) or a solstice for the kids as they get older. my thinking was to keep excess kids out of the car, have a car that is fun to drive, have car that handles well enough to get out of trouble, & force galen to take care of it. he will then pass it on to his brother with the condition that it must be in as good or better shape when garrett gets it & i'll help galen get something else. then give garret the same conditions, except that i get the car

that said, i don't like the government telling me what time my kids need to be home. even though at that age they will be home well before then

I agree with Bill on the curfew thing.I like the rest of it though .I think back to my high school days and it was not unusual to have 3 people in the front and 3 in the back ..(chevy citation with bucket seats). There were several times I was lucky I didnt kill us all.I was a maniac but I did have a help getting that way .My dad was a hotrodder so I came by it honestly.I took my driving test in a bigblock malibu ...go figure why I ended up in a citation shortly after.

Bill, the other solution to that is to remove the other seats. The weight reduction will save them in fuel too.
