WORKER SIGN-UP: Sep 29th Teen Driver Clinic

It is time to start our Fall 2012 Teen Driver Clinics! That means I need your help. Working a clinic (or two, or three...) is a great way to give back to your club and community as we teach new drivers skills that they will need to survive on the roads.

Our first clinic will be on Saturday September 29th at Gardendale First Baptist Church. There are also clinics scheduled at Gardendale First Baptist on October 20th & November 3rd.

We need your help, so please respond to this thread if you can work on September 29th. We only have 5 confirmed workers for the Clinic and need at least 9. I can use you even if you have never worked one before...one of the biggest needs is folks for setup and to chase cones during the exercises so our more experienced folks can provide immediate feedback to the students.

Workers need to be onsite by 8am and plan to be there until 5pm (although we are rarely there that late). If possible we would like everyone to wear red shirts so that we are somewhat identifiable to the students & parents. Lunch will be provided for our volunteers (Chick-fil-a boxed lunch: sandwich, chips, brownie). Prepare as you would for an autocross event.

These are always fun, as it's largely comprised of many of the same familiar faces from autocross, but where we get to be laid back and have a good time, and help prepare better drivers as well. If you've never done it, come check it out!

No problem Matt & Casey. I picked up a friend who wants to help that should bring us to a minimum crew. If either of my sons or Megan can make it we should be in good shape.

However, the more the merrier.

If you've never helped with one of these events, you've missed out on an amazing transformation of young, uninterested minds full of mush into new drivers who at least learn that a car doesn't just turn or stop, immediately, at the slightest whim, and that there is a certain amount of attention required to react to an unexpected situation.

Remember, too, that these young people are sharing the roads with you. Help improve your odds of survival on the highway.

I completely agree.

When I jumped in to this whole "build a race car" thing, I knew I was going to be out of town several weekends. Katie and I decided that we would miss Autocross before a TDC. that's what we've tried to do, and why we've missed so many autocross events this season. We still made most, if not all of the TDC events in the spring.

So we believe in it. Helping out not only benefits the students and parents, as well as the community we drive in daily, but it's also personally rewarding. Honestly, every one of these clinics give me a greater feeling of accomplishment than FTD.
