The JACircuits heads were mounted in boxes. I wonder if that would help the Tag heads, especially if they were shock-mounted somehow.

We could easily rig some shock mounts, but that would also introduce some play in the alignment. Unless we used a foam filled box rather than a suspension system for the shock absorption.Matt W.

Brilliant!Originally posted by BoostedFD View PostHow about put the reflector box just outside the edge of the cones and the light as far back as possible. The reflector box can take the beating and even if it does get hurt a new one is alot cheaper to find/make.Erik B.
Why do I keep racing these weird cars?
Why can't I just get a miata and be happy?

Point is ... accidents will happen -- let's be smarter about how we use them.Originally posted by BoostedFD View PostHow about put the reflector box just outside the edge of the cones and the light as far back as possible. That's the "shock mount" we've slightly discussed.Originally posted by ZX3Focus View PostCould we suspend the light on bungees inside a box and still have it aimable? I've seen eggs survive 2-story drops in similar arrangements.Matt W.

Just out of curiosity. Is there another equipment that is cheaper, more durable, less alignment "issue" and as accurate as the current setup? I am thinking more like those rubber strip at the gas station, it trigger the bell when a car rolled over it. Someone that knows a little more electronic may be able to convert the pulse to signal. Just my .02.

I was thinking change the mounts out to quarter inch angle welded together. That should be a deterrent enough. It'll be like Barbers, not only do you have to replace the whole right side of the car, but you owe us for what you hit too.
If someone left the site knowing that they owed us $500, do you really think we'd see them again. If we don't get a check on the sot we would at least need an address to send a bill to. I mean, it's nice to think that someone would be honest about it, but lets jump back to reality."Its an incurable disease not to leave well enough alone." -Ricky

The Tag Heuer light set was purchased mainly for the use of wireless timing. We had to use wires hung from the light poles to the trailer that would break in the middle of the day causing delays while David Leonard did the pole dance to help fix them.
The lights, transmitters and receivers were purchased specifically for their compatibility with the Axware timing software. The cost was somewhere north of $1500 when all was said and done. They were purchased in 2004 give or take one year.
This hardware is some of the best on the market to purchase and at this time the club could stand to not have to spend money on equipment already owned. Repeating Steve’s comment from earlier – Just don’t hit em’

Accidents happen no doubt, I always follow a policy of "you break, you buy". $100 is a small price to pay for taking out a timing light. Im guessing site insurance doesnt cover that or we dont want to make a claim for something that small. In our faith, you keep what you kill. It is the Necromonger wayChris K
