Forum will no longer be utilized!

After facing many challenges with utilization of this forum for many years, the board voted on the evening of 1/12/2026 to stop use of the forum in favor of the modern, more effective means.

Most of our general club organization will now be coordinated via Discord and results from our events along with schedules and announcements will be hosted on our main alscca.net webpage.

What does this mean for the old forum? Well, in short we are going to stop using it. This has been reviewed several times in the past few years, and there has been a desire for some of more tenured members of the club to have the historic content preserved. In an effort to preserve this content, it was discovered that we could not simply export the content to be placed in a modern website. This forum will now become an archive only forum and will not be monitored. If you wish to preserve any of the content, this is your time to search the pages to find it. There is no promise that this content will remain available forever with the fragile nature of this forum.

110-second runs in 98 degree heat with high humidity... doesn't that sound like fun?
Am I the only one that wouldn't mind seeing the SSSS having normal length runs? Last years event destroyed my tires and they were new at the beginning of the season...Anyone want to chime in on this? If I am the only one, so be it...I will shut up.

While I am a big proponent of saving tires I think one of the big draws to the SSSSS is the long course.

And you have more tire to save than most.

If you are saying that, I guess that means I need to shut up and deal with it..

Lyle-I feel ya on this tire vs. long course deal.

Maybe we need to turn CSP into CSP ST for the SSSS. I'd be all for that, in the interest of saving big $$$. Or maybe not, considering you ran 40.xxx on street tires at the last event.

I'd be okay with having normal length runs. I have tires to save and I lose focus and forget the course halfway through.. yes I am ADD.

Last year's SSSS was my first 'real' autox after attending the Atlanta novice school. I remember getting out of my car after every one of those 110+ second runs with my legs shaking... sweating... loving every minute of it! I also remember wondering whether my street tires would have enough tread to get back to Atlanta (they lasted another 10k miles of street driving).

The draw of the SSSS for me is the unique challenge of remembering all the elements and staying focused for that length of time. I also understand the tire issue - I destroyed my Kumho 710s this weekend during an 8 run a-x event in Macon (very abrasive surface).

Whatever you decide is best, I'll come to B'ham if my schedule allows.

For me the whole draw of the event (OK, besides the people, food, comraderie) is the long course. It gets boring running 60 seconds or less all the time. I can't PDX or Time trial my car so the closest thing I get to a nice long run is the SSSSS.....

If tires are a concern... run fewer runs.. or find some old crap to run. I have sets of tires that I only use in Alabama. And when they are used up, I will buy some other brand of cheap tires.

                    Just my thoughts....

if we keep the low turnout we may be unable to run the 1:30 course

I have to say, even though it looks like tire money is going to be short this year, that the short course is not what I would like to drive to B'ham for. During the John Redd days most of the time the courses were 80 seconds and everybody loved it.(that's when people started coming in from all over) Know that the lot is deteriorating but, there is enough room and good imaginations to make it work. When word gets out again about the longest solo courses around, even in this bad economy, I'm sure entrants will increase dramatically. Also having the times posted quickly would definitely make a warm and fuzzy feeling.

I'm gonna have to say I like short courses as well as long course just for variety, but we currently don't have the attendance to man a 90 second course safely. So that puts it all right back on us to get the word out about SOLO and how much fun it is to run. I'm sure the shootout will be a traditional long course. That's the way its always been but maybe the course designers need to take into consideration the number of cones used for the course. Fewer cones means fewer to knock over and fewer to pick up. We could make some changes the way the corner stations are placed to cover more area with fewer people.
The SSSSSSSSSS is our "divisional" so to speak and we need to promote the heck out of it.

When is it by the way?

We can use more of the bottom lot like we have in the past and push grid and paddock to the bottom. A 90+ sec course is still doable, but setting up course like Hville in rain last weekend will use a minimum amount of cones for the max amount of fun. I will be glad to assist with course setup to achieve those goals.
