  • Need some class help ...

Alrighty ... my brother has a rail buggy that he would really like to run at an event. It's based on a VW drivetrain (1800cc type-II I think) and has a full tube chassis. He has 4-point harnesses. Steel skidplate under the passenger area and roll bars on top.

I have no idea if he could even run it, but he really wants to. I feel like the exposed drivetrain would be the biggest issue.

So, what I would like to know is ... is there a way he could run in a Mod class with this vehicle? If not in the current state, what would he need to do to prepare it to run?

There was a thread about rails on the old forum, if I remember correctly they can't run. It had something to do with the chassis being open/exposed. You might want to call nationals on this one.

Tire is a street radial. I'll try to get specifics, but probably can't get weight.

from what i can see in the rulebook as long as there is a scattershield/nonexplosable tranny it should be allowed, shoot me some pics.

Dune buggies are allowed and you don't get much more open than them

              Matt / Ervin

Once you two get together on exactly how the rail is constructed, PLEASE call Brian at SCCA and check the class and if it is allowed to run. You can reach Brian at 800*770*2055

              Thanks

There's something in the rules about the minimum height of bodywork around the driver, IIRC.
