  • The power of yellow

After finishing up at Milton Frank yesterday Clay McCool in a YELLOW Mazda 3 and Lyle in WHITE Miata and me in a YELLOW Miata left the event site to head home. Lyle was the white meat in a Yellow car sandwich. We turned on Triana where a Huntsville Policeman fell in behind me and as we turned on Bob Wallace the Police man lit up like a Christmas tree and passed me on the right then jammed back in front of me to pull Lyle over for not having a tag on his tire trailer. No ticket just a notification. Funny thing is Clay's trailer didn't have a tag either. Hmmm perhaps the YELLOW car has some magical power over the Police, or Lyle is a Cop magnet.

By the way...I had CSP won in 3 runs then let Lyle drive my car for the first time for the 4th run and he beat my class winning best time by .003. So, for the fifth run I had to improve to a 40.4 to win the class and retain my manhood. I feel pretty good about our chance at the Dixie Tour next weekend.

OK Do the new Hoosiers rock or what?

Yeah ... I think we need to limit the combined tire width to half the car's body width per axle. That would limit the Miatas to 215s, right? We might have a chance then ...

It was a great time at Milton Frank this weekend. Lots of T&T on Saturday, and my car probably did 15 runs yesterday with very little tire wear the whole weekend (less wear than one 2 driver event at Bham Race course). Alabama Miatas were rocking up here. My class was pretty tough too. I came in last in HS and still PAX'd 4th out of 75 cars! I am ready for Dixie National Tour next weekend (if rain holds off). I hope to start running at the event in April (and maybe set up a course with my new course design philosophy).

I didn't think that small single axle trailers required tags.

                    The law says this...

"Trailers more than 16 feet long, including travel trailers manufactured in 1990 or later, utility trailers, and truck trailers, must be tagged and titled. The process is the same as for car registration."

                    ...but what does it mean?

It means any 16'+ trailer, no exceptions due to use/style. Yours isn't 16'.

Yeah I've never seen a tag on a little short utility trailer...or if I have, it's been a while...

That's what I thought. I thought the trailer had to be certain length. I know some people go ahead and get a tag for their trailer though.

I have a tag on my trailer and I didn't get pulled over. So yea it's worth it.

Actually the DMV told me it wasn't necessary in Alabama but since I often go out of state to autocross, a tag may be required in other states.
