OK .At the risk of detracting from the post event excitement I must say this ......As this regions RE,I am going to address from my standpoint something that happened today at the finish.Guys ,that finish was WAAAYYYYYYY tooooo fast .Was it fun?????YES...it was fun ...right up until the point that an ST bimmer clobbered the finish timing lights at what I would say was 60+MPH .I will also say that on his present course he could have easily hit the pole 150 feet away .
We had a 300 or so foot baking zone after the lights that on more than one occasion was not enough to get the cars slowed down to make the turn back into the grid lane .David Mcfall had to go down into the lower lot a couple times because it was not possible for his SS Z06 vette.Guys ...laying out a course and approving it is a big responsibility .You may drive a Chevette ,but, you have to figure in for a vette or a STI subbie that can really have some big trap speeds .I dont know if any of you noticed but the novice versus seasoned autoxr ratio has shifted to about 60/40 to the novice side.
I can share some responsibility in that i didn't become more insistant (I did bring it up prior to the beginnings of runs)that the finish be modified but this will not be the case next time .Equipment has to now be repaired and we were very fortunate not to have to replace the timing lights or fill out an incident report. All of the dramas always seem to happen at the finish so lets do a more responsible job from here out on the finish.
Even if that Bimmer hadnt hit the light (not singling you out guy because it could have been me )the finish was too fast .Sorry to be critical but wait........thats my job now.
Course designers...thank you so much for your creativeness .Please review the solo rules and stay inside of them .The speeds we should be seeing are 45-50 MPH max and thats pushing it .If folks want to see higher speeds...there is TT levels 1 -4 and then theres club racing .Can you guys see where im coming from here ?
Now with that said ,the event was well run ,well organized and i had a helluva time except for the aforementioned .
