  • 2020 Classing and Points Series Supps

A final draft of Sections 8 and 9 of the forthcoming ALSCCA Autocross Supplemental Rules and Operations Handbook is attached below. The two sections cover a classing change as well as a new points system and revised award program for 2020.

I spent much of December researching other regions’ points series and classing practices. I found many regions, especially the smaller regions, have found success with a PAX classing structure. There’s a ton of good stuff happening out there through creativity and evolution. The attached is a blend of ideas that I hope will work well for us.

Good stuff Steve! As a CSP driver, would I be driving in RT Open even if I chose to run street tires?

That's an option, unfortunately the new SCCA classes don't offer much relief for your car on street tires. You might make it into XS-B if it weighs enough which has a PAX of .864 vs CSP's .865. Too much reversing to go to ST?

I think SCCA missed the mark with some of the allowances and weight limits on XS, then there's the first year penalty because unknowns. It's probably close for an Anderson Miata, there just aren't many of those out there.

I think my car is about 1000lbs shy of being eligible for XS-A. I know it's a lot. Maybe not a 1000 lbs. I might fit the XS-B weight with a fulltank and powersteering added back on.
Going back to ST would require an engine/ecu/shocks/diff swap and those old 1.6L long nose engines are getting hard to find.

Registered for XSB. Not sure if I qualify, but scales will tell.

Heck, BSP is only 0.002 multiplier off SM.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.
