  • Question regarding 15 year old Autoxing

I believe this used to be the case, but I don't have a current handbook:

If a 15 year old has their permit, he/she is signed off by both parents (who remain onsite) and has a parent ride along with him/her, they can participate in a Solo 2 event under SCCA and ALSCCA regulations, correct?

    Thanks,
    Lyle Cain

    You're dating yourself my friend...."Solo 2"?

You are correct. A 15 year old with a permit is allowed to participate as long as parent/licensed driver is riding along, just as if they are driving on the road. You do need to download and complete two copies of the SCCA Minor Waiver. This needs to be completed by both parents, or if only one parent signs it must be notarized. Turn in one copy at the trailer and keep another copy for yourself.

I have a little girl, Madelyn Cain, that I guarantee will not be the slowest time of the day. She may not beat me, but I would appreciate the elders and smoother drivers in the club to let her ride along with them and I will ride with her to make sure there are no hiccups. We will be on old tires, but it is a Miata.

We will also make sure the starter respects the gap that may be required for the following driver to avoid any situations. She may be really good by the time the season is over.

        Thanks guys,
        Bobby Lyle "Maddies Dad" Cain

She received her permit today, but she may have driven a Miata on a closed course a few times prior to this event. I plead the 5th on any such occurrence.

I'm sure Maddie will do more than "ok" in her first autocross.

I seem to remember that this must be printed in color to be accepted by the insurance company.

Also, is there a way for one waiver to apply to all events for the year?

Looks like we have to wait until June for Maddie's debut. The Met pulled the site for the 19th.
