  • Midpond Track Cross

    NEW EVENT DATE: 4/27

    Register here! https://www.midpond.com/collections/...-april-14-2019

Convertibles 2005 and older require roll over protection (S2000 factory protection is approved on all years).

There is an early registration discount code in the banner on the website.

Unlike an autocross, this event will not require everyone to work chasing cones, etc!

I've looked around and can't seem to find a definition of what a track cross is. . .

In a nutshell it's a point-to-point run on a race track. Faster than the typical autocross, very few (if any) cones, automatic DNF for putting a tire off the pavement.

Cool. In a previous life I ran at least one Solo II event at a similar venue - http://gvkc.org/

We've done it twice at TGPR in the last few years, most recently during last fall's TT weekend.

This event has been rescheduled for 4/27, due to a 100% chance of thunderstorms this Sunday.

Cameron, you have the new date noted as both 5/27 and 4/27. Which is the correct date?

              Thanks,
              CC

I registered, but I didn't see any option for classing. How does that work? Or are we just running all raw times?

I have a new ride: a '98 Porsche Boxster 986. It's a convertible with roll bars----am I ok to run it this Saturday?

If the roll bars are approved by NASA/SCCA standards, then they will be just fine. Not being familiar with bars for Porsches, I'm unsure about your specific car.

I think Mandy is asking about the factory roll hoops in her new Boxster (can't wait to see it BTW!)

This event is using the Track Night In America guidelines for convertibles which state anything older than 2006 must either have an approved rollbar installed or documented factory rollover protection. I have not been able to locate a definitive document for the Boxster but my understanding is the 2006+ Boxsters have the same protection as the 98-05.

I did find this from another organization and suggest that owners of the "approved" list below seek out official documentation for their model.
The following cars are known to have factory rollover protection and are approved to run:
                            Audi TT, A4, S4, A5, S5 & R8
                            Aston Martin 1998-present
                            Bentley Continental
                            BMW Z4 & Z3, 3 series, 6 series, M series 1998-present
                            Bugatti Veyron
                            Corvette C6
                            Dodge Viper SRT-10 2004-present
                            Ferrari 360, 430 & California
Fiat 124 Spider (2016 to present)
                            Jaguar 1998-present
                            Honda S2000 & NSX
Lamborghini Gallardo, Murcielago, Diablo, LP560, LP640 roadsters, Performante
                            Mazda Miata 2006‐present
Mercedes S, SLK and CLK Convertible
                            Mini & S
                            Nissan 350/370Z
Porsche - all convertibles 996/986 and later
                            Volkswagen Eos & Beetle

The following cars do NOT have factory roll over protection and would be required to install aftermarket roll bars:
BMW Z3 1996-97 without factory roll over hoops (1998 and newer are approved)
                            Camaro Convertible, all models
Corvette Convertible up to C5 (C6 and newer are approved)
Dodge Viper RT Convertible 1992-2003 (SRT 2004 and newer are approved)
                            Firebird Convertible
Mazda Miata 1990‐2005 (2006 and newer are approved)
                            Mustang/Shelby Convertibles, all models
                            Lexus SC 430 Convertible
Porsche - all convertibles pre-996/986 generation
                            Pontiac Solstice & GXP
                            Saturn Sky
                            Toyota Solaris
                            Rod H
