Hey guys, I have been interested in auto cross or Solo for some time, but now feel I am actually ready to take the step and give it a shot. As far as required equipment, other than a car passing tech, what is needed? Helmet?

    Thanks again,

    James

Yes, a helmet would be the only other equipment you need. It needs to have a Snell SA or M approval of 2005 or later.

We have loaner helmets available until you get your own, so don't let a lack of helmet keep you away.

Sounds good to me. I have been out of the car scene for a bit, and it seems kind of dead.

When does the next season start? I'd be in a stock class, but I may pick up a spare set of wheels to thrash on. As long as it is a street radial, it won't change my class, with aftermarket wheels will it?

We're working to set events for the 2017 season now. Dates will be posted on this forum when they are available. As far as wheels, to stay in street (stock class) the wheels need to be the same width as OE and +/-1" on diameter.

Does anybody have a good place or know of a place to go to get an inexpensive helmet in the Birmingham area? I would prefer a SA2015 because I would also like to do some track events as well.

I believe Gardendale Performance carries some but not sure how much they have in stock. Discovery Parts in Dawsonville (AMP) has a big selection and now carries their own branded helmets. They're pretty nice. Bought one for my son for Christmas.

I got my HJC SA2010 helmet at Pelham Powersports for around $80 retail back in 2012.

We're cool with either full or open face helmets, btw.
