  • Update on our Match Tour

Well folks... barring something extraordinary our Match Tour event for June 18-19 is canceled. The SCCA National office gave us this week as a go/no-go point in order to have time to make adjustments to the national schedule. While we are continuing to have discussions with Hoover, we are nowhere near the point where the event might have been spared. This does not necessarily mean there is no hope of ever using the Hoover Met again and we will continue to work toward getting back there someday.

On a positive note, the SCCA folks have been busy developing a contingency plan and, to my understanding, have another Match Tour lined up to take our place on the June 18 weekend. While not as close as our own back yard, the proposed (flat concrete ) location is about 3.5 hours from Birmingham which makes it closer than Dixie or Bristol. I don't think I should divulge anything else until it's public, but at this point it's a trip I'm planning to make. I hope many of you will consider it as well.

And to answer the next question, Josh & Charlie are still hammering out a new 2016 schedule. Trust me...we will post it as soon as we can.

Hate to hear that, I hope the backup location is what I think it is at this point. If so I hope a bunch of the ALSCCA crew make it, it's a great site!

I understand Wiregrass was considered but didn't work out, if that's what you're thinking

we have a hard enough time getting it one sunday a month, damn RC plane club has it all the others.... Saturdays are kind of a no go. the Army wants the field clear the day after flights just incase they have to pick up a bird from the day before. I wish we could.

I would rather we not write letters, email, call, etc. Sam is working on a face-to-face with the key decision maker and I want to go in on a positive note from the recognition we've gotten for how well we've taken care of the facility and leverage that to open doors for the future.

Doh! That would have been nice, only 2 hrs for me

Oh well, if it's only 3.5 from b-ham it can't be any farther than 5.5 from me so I still plan on attending as long as it's the same weekend.
