  • Class Magnets Question

I have a 2002 BMW M3 that I am planning on doing autox with. I'm ordering magnetic class numbers, and I wanted to make sure I am ordering the right ones. As far as I can tell, I am in street modified (SM). It has a tune, slotted rotors, strut brace, koni shocks, h&r springs, axle back exhaust, cold air intake, and camber plates. So I was planning on getting "SM27" for my magnets. Any suggestions on best sites for ordering numbers is welcome. Also, is there a way to find out if SM27 is available?

    Thanks!

Edit: Or would that be FSM?

If that list is the full extent of your mods then the car is best suited for STU. You don't mention wheels & tires and those will also affect classing. In STU your car has no limits on wheel size, a maximum allowed tire width of 285, and you must run tires with at least a 200 treadwear rating. It also sounds legal for SM, which allows many more mods than STU and also allows r-comp tires.

SM 27 or STU 27 are likely both okay. I recommend getting individual numbers and letters to allow yourself some flexibility. That way you could run 2,7,27 or 72 if there was a conflict. I also suggest getting a "1" so that a potential codriver could use 127.

We had some magnets for sale in the trailer but I don't know what the stock looks like. Hopefully someone who knows can chime in.

btw, there is no "FSM" class. The progression for an e46 M3 is currently FS --> STU --> SM

Hope to see you at our test & tune in February.

Ah, definitely STU then. Read over the rules again, not sure how I missed it. Thanks!

They put an 11" limit on wheel size in STU this year for RWD cars, 285mm tire width limit.

I'll agree with everything Rod said but change the 2 or 7 to a 6. Now you have 1,6,9,7,16,19,17,71,91,61, etc...

I really hope you don't have an m3 with aluminum doors. Magnets won't be much help...

The only aluminum body panel on an E46 is the hood. Gave me a mini heart attack though.

                  Ryan,
                  I like http://www.izoomgraphics.com/

Sean Grubb is easy to deal with and they have a great selection. Good idea to get an extra number. Consider getting an "S", "M", "T", and "U" in case you change your mind. I went back after my original order and got two "H's", not many folks want to deal with such a small order.
                  Good luck - NFI,

SPS has been providing autocross track day racing race car numbers, graphics and more since 1984. We are the St. Louis Racing gear headquarters with a select of helmets, gloves, harnesses and more in stock

They do magnets and are an SCCA sponsor. You get a discount if you're an SCCA member. I get all my magnets from them and they'll do individual letters and ship out as many or as few as you need.

Before I learned of soloperformance.com I bought magnet sheets from http://www.custom-magnets.com/flexib...-the-foot.html where 30mil is best, 60mil is rather thick and hard to cut but is definitely not coming off at autocross speeds.

My class letters and numbers initially came from http://www.autocrossnumbers.com/inde...&product_id=15 where these will be 30mil.

                      YMMV.
