Congratulations to Darryl "Tony the Pope" Engle for a hard fought and decisive victory to take the 2015 CSP Championship. Darryl has been autox-ing for a few more months than me and he has occasionally wandered off the beaten path (RX7-Beautiful car, but what were you thinking?) but 2015 was his year. After our team win at Dixie, I noticed he had a change in driving demeanor. He threw caution to the wind and relaxed his elbows and just drove the stink out of the blue car. His times dropped and his speed came up. He has become the serious contender I feared he would become. 2014 would have been his championship if it weren't for a stumbling fuel/spark/mystery something issue that had the blue thing sputtering and spewing. Apparently, it has been resolved.
He has been the best co driver one could have. Offering up a seat in one of the best prepared cars in the SE, if not, the country. And in true DIY fashion he designs and builds his own parts for his car. If you get a chance, check out the splitter and spoiler. Home-made, Wizzer Motorsports. Darryl also has the ability to read the course like he drives it. Amazingly, He can guess how fast a course will be on the first walk. He also shares his knowledge with whomever asks for it. I'm not just blowing smoke here, I am honoring my friend for his accomplishments, his competition, his camaraderie and his driving abilities.
He also makes some kick-a$$ gumbo.
Congratulations Darryl!
Thank you for a great season.
