We can make that work; however, I need to know your name (it's not in your signature) and if you have taken the safety steward class.
Brandon and no, I seem to have missed the safety class at the last event. In any case I figured i could help and learn a bit myself since I wont be running at this event.

We appreciate the offer but shadowing safety is a position for those that have taken the Safety Steward class and have to get their required number of shadows in before being licensed. Your work assignment may end up helping the safety steward in some way but it is not the same as one of the shadow positions.
Since your daughter is coming, do you know if there will be a youth steward at the event?
As for the youth steward attending I do not know. I was instructed to post her intent to participate in the event thread before each event and I have done so and received no reply. I inquired about the safety steward class at the test n tune and hung out by the timing trailer waiting for the class to start but nobody ever announced anything so I left that day somewhat confused.

Hi Brandon - I am a Youth Steward and plan to be at the event on Saturday. I will fill you in on what is needed to become a Youth Steward, which is less complex than becoming a "normal" Solo Safety Steward (not that we have any normal ones). I'll be looking for you in the morning to go over some important items with you and your daughter. FYI my name is Andrew Reynolds and I live "up North" in Huntsville.
As previously posted, please make sure the kart has a redundant brake cable and a kill switch within easy reach of the driver (must demonstrate the ability to turn off the engine). Other critical items below:
G. Driver Safety Equipment
1. Neck Braces: An unaltered, collar type neck brace designed for motor
sports use, is mandatory. Kart-specific neck braces are recommended.
2. Driver Apparel: Drivers are minimally required to wear jackets
of leather, vinyl, or abrasion resistant nylon or equivalent, and full
length pants to prevent or minimize abrasions. Full abrasion kart
suits are recommended. Shoes, socks, and abrasion resistant gloves
are mandatory.
3. Seat Positioning: When normally positioned in the kart for competition,
the entirety of the driver shall be within the perimeter of the
154 — 2015 SCCA® National Solo® Rules
19. Kart
kart and the driver must be able to reach and operate all controls.
Loose cushions or pads that prevent the driver from being adequately
supported by the sides of the seat are not allowed.
E. Safety Equipment
1. Must follow Section 19.1.G. In addition to meeting the requirements
of Section 4.3.1, helmets for Formula Junior drivers must be of closed
face design, incorporating full face shields and chin bars.
2. Kill Switch: All drivers must demonstrate the ability to shut down
the engine both while driving and stationary. It is suggested that the
kart have an operational ignition kill switch within easy reach of the
driver in the normal operating position.
3. Seats: It is not permissible to use any type of strap or seat belt. In
the event a kart is upset, a driver must be able to exit the kart unrestrained
by a seat belt or strap. It is recommended to utilize some
form of seat insert and pedal extensions to fit drivers of different
sizes to one seat.
4. A “brake safety cable” or redundant brake pedal connection is required
in all karts.
If I remember right the Safety Steward class was just finishing up when you arrived at the trailer. A brief announcement was made that morning but our PA system doesn't reach the entire area. It's likely you didn't hear it. There may have also been some confusion regarding whether you wanted to attend a Safety Steward class or become a Youth Steward.
Excellent, thanks for the reply Andrew. I'll be there bright and early then. We will go over her kart again this week and weather permitting see if we can get in some parking lot practice time for her. @John, I do remember he PA was a bit on the quite side. I just figured I missed the announcement for some reason or another. Thank you for the clarification.
