I'm working to have my car ready for the 2015 season and have been interested in getting my stepdaughter (12 yo) involved in the sport. Is there anyone running karts at the local events?

We currently do not have any regular junior kart participants. Occasionally some attend from outside the region.
There are additional safety requirements for having junior karts at an event so it would greatly help us if you could let us know in advance when your stepdaughter plans to participate. The course designers will need to take this into account. There also must be a kart safety steward present. Frequently the parent becomes a kart safety steward to ensure one will be present wherever their child chooses to run.Rod H

Well I want to bring her to a few events and she how she likes the atmosphere first. She should be able to ride along in my car provided she has a helmet right?Brandon Roberts

I have a kart that can be used if she's just "testing the waters". Of course, I don't know how my schedule will jive with the solo schedule this year.Originally posted by biqut2 View PostWell I want to bring her to a few events and she how she likes the atmosphere first. I am a Youth Steward and happy to serve in that capacity if your daughter is running in an event. However, I am from Huntsville and while I plan to make all of the B'Ham events, I cannot guarantee that I will be there. As Rod indicated it is encouraged for the parents to become Youth Stewards to assure that required position is covered, but also to assure the parent understands and adheres to all of the safety rules.
Feel free to PM me on the forum or send me an email to pingman.ajr@gmail.com if you have any questions and to confirm my attendance for an event. It's great to see parents and their kids enjoying autocross together!!
My son Nick ran karts for 3 years until he turned 15...now he's co-driving my car. It's a blast!

That's very appealing. I want to make sure she's really interested before I make any serious investments in a kart. I'd be happy to pay for renting it and any supplies so she can test the waters if she seems interested.Originally posted by bimmertech View PostI have a kart that can be used if she's just "testing the waters". As a side note since I retired my RX-7 and moved on to a Lotus 7 I'm not sure which class I would fall under now. Is this the right forum section to post that question?Brandon Roberts

Ok cool. Admittedly I was confused over two seemingly contradictory entries in the rule book. BTW mine has an unmodified R1 engine.Originally posted by cdambrose View PostHi Brandon, the Lotus 7 progresses from C Street, to Super Street Prepared, to D Prepared, according to the 2015 Solo Rules.Brandon Roberts

I've come across what seems to be a good deal ( I'm ignorant about karts ). It a 2004 chassis with a new world formula engine and tires for $800. I don't really think I'll come across a better deal than that for her a kart. I'm mainly concerned about my interpretation of the rule book. Can anyone confirm for me that this would fit withing the rules of the class? I know its the right engine but I dont know if I need a specific chassis or if the chassis has to be of a certain year model or be certified or anything like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated cause I don't won't to waste money on something she can't run.Brandon Roberts

Frankly unless you are planning to go to National level events I don't think anyone local will be concerned about any minor inconsistencies. It is likely that your daughter will be the only one running locally, or one of very few. The main area to make sure you understand and adhere to is safety. A couple of key points are the kill switch, that must be easily reachable by the driver and must be demonstrated prior to running, and the redundant brake cable. Of course there are many other safety related rules you should be aware of, including driver safety equipment, etc.Andrew Reynolds

Well I ended up purchasing her the kart and some intro driving lessons so as of now I'm working the 2015 event dates into our calendar. Where should I post or who should I inform that I intend to bring her to the event so they can make any necessary accommodations ahead of time for karts to compete that day?Brandon Roberts
