    Off topic... slightly

I wonder if someone would suggest the fastest/easiest route from B'ham to Adel, GA. I'll be at the banquet on the 24th, and hope to make the autox at SGMP on the 25th. Google maps says to take I-20 back to Atlanta, then go South. Seems like going backwards to go forward.

Thanks for the information! Jim, what are these roads like (280)... do they go through a lot of small towns with traffic lights, or are they fairly open with 55mph limits?

correction!!!!! that was before my first sip of coffee!!!! take hwy 280 south to columbus,ga....stay on hwy 280...to americus,ga.....then at cordele,ga pickup hwy 75 south..your then 13 exits from adel,ga and 16 exits from cecil,ga..south ga motorsports park. you could go through albany but i foumd it quicker hitting i75 cordele due to traffic through the city of albany! plus once your on i75 you can put the pedal to the medal and your there!!!

Ahhhhhhh, coffee... elixir of the gods! I just finished my second cup. I'll be needing some extra-strength brew after driving all night after the banquet next weekend.

I guess if I'm going to have an addiction, there are worse ones than Autox...

              Thanks for the update.

your welcome! when you go past columbus there will be a chevron gas station on your left..it than goes to the most awesome curved and off set roads that you will want to speed on! but don't!!! police will bust you there! but once your past that its smooth sailing! be sure and watch cause hwy 280 turns left at richland and that takes you too americus,ga. but if you miss that you will head to albany,ga..which is a much slower way! hope that's not confusing!!

Super 8 in Adel is $49/night with free continental bfast (I got a 2 bed efficiency with microwave and frig for that price).

280 is the major route to Auburn, so for those people familiar with the route it might not seem like a difficult drive.

However, for those of us not used to the area, you should know that the speed limits change frequently and there are a ton of lights. Not to mention there is a good deal of police pressure down the entire route. I recently got pulled over and the state trooper warned me of three other speed traps set up that day.

When you get south of Auburn, the highway gets even smaller with even more frequent speed limit changes and a number of sections leading you through winding routes in southern Alabama and Georgia.

While the 280 route is certainly shorter, I found the number of stop lights maked it much slower for my recent trip (average miles per hour drops remarkably quickly waiting at a stoplight). In addition, watching for frequent speed limit changes made this a much more taxing route then just heading East to Atlanta and south on the 75.

Figured I'd share another opinion, but now after writing all of this, I just realized you probably made this drive three days ago .... oops. I just made the drive back this weekend myself.

Thanks for the info, Jamie. I decided to stick to the Interstates, and backtracked to Atlanta then down I-75. I made it to South GA in 4.5 hours, and didn't have to worry about speed limits or lights. It was worth the effort - the rain held off and we got 6 runs on a 56 second course.

We missed you at the banquet. Looking forward to a new season of competition and camaraderie.
